Hee Haw was not clean

I'm still scarred from memories of Hee-Haw. For a long time growing up, we only had one TV. And dad loved Hee-Haw. And I HATE country music! Actually, both my parents were kind of into it.

While they'd tell me the JW positions on moral values and wouldn't let me watch TV shows that weren't perfectly moral, Hee-Haw and country music in general was totally opposite to what they were telling me. Country music was ripe with people who left their partners, cheated on them, the famous D.I.V.O.R.C.E. song, etc. It was positively depressing. And I kept getting reminded of it every week by Hee-Haw.

One of the running weekly songs was the song about "Where oh where were you last night? Why did you leave me here all alone? You met another and phttp you were gone".

At a young age, it showed me the horrible, sad things that could go on in life. Probably scared that one of my parents would meet another and phttp they'd be gone.

Never noticed the T&A. I think I was a little too young to pay attention to such things. I do remember Minnie Pearl who I've never thought of as attractive in the least. And she was so stupid she wore a price tag on her hat. Oh, and that's another thing. Early in life, it made me think of country-folk as simple-minded buffoons.

Not exactly the same reasons as the OP. But Hee-Haw was no fond memory for me.

'The show scarred me for life.' Me too!.........The price tag on Minnie Pearl's hat devastated me.

The very beautiful fiddle player in Buck Owens band [and his wife for 3 days] Jana Jae Greif was from Redding Calif. [school music teacher] started Dist. 6 of Calif. Old Time Fiddle Association. Which during the late 1970's and all of the 1980's put out more Weiser National Fiddle Champions than any where else in the nation. Hundreds of children got to learn fiddle music and enter fiddle contests because of her.

And yes she was easy on the eyes.

Oh god, you should be shot for bringing that earwig back.

Just for revenge, I'll post the lyrics you missed (I too had the same background - one TV and a dad who couldn't miss Hee Haw....that song is burned into my brain):

Where oh where are yo-o-ou tonight?

Why did you le-e-e-ave me here all alo-o-o-ne?

I searched the world over and thought I found true love

You met another and phphpbpt you were go-o-o-o-ne
