How could they possibly know what they beleive when they keep changing their beleifs all the time with so called nu-lite .

I've always viewed it as simply changing the magnetic sign on a truck.

I'm still "in" and as long as they don't start screwing around with the 1922 Horn Blowing in Cedar Point Ohio I am staying put.

When we are raised in this organization, we learn from a very early age how to sit for hours on end and tune out everything.

    Magwitch ...

Yes, and it was harder to sneak out and fake that you actually attended those long 6, 7 and 8 day assemblies.

The elders could simply ask you to turn around and see how closely your butt was shaped like the stadium seats.

    no one has time.

the org likes to keep you so busy you dont even 'know' your own congregation.

the magazines give you all the 'answers' no one cares if they make sense.

    see,.... wt quote

But in Jehovah’s organization it is not necessary to spend a lot of time and energy in research, for there are brothers in the organization who are assigned to that very thing, to help you who do not have so much time for this, these preparing the good material in The Watchtower and other publications of the Society.”

when we finally do have time, and use a real bible,  we study ourselves right to the real   'truth'

"It is important to understand that in most Bible-based cults, although the member is aggressively taught doctrine, it is not the doctrine that holds him in the group. It is the sense that the group is God's true people, a feeling cultivated by techniques of mind control. Thus, to engage the cult member in a Biblical argument or discussion is often futile." Stephen Hassan Releasing the Bonds p.145

Control is not about the teachings, it is about the concept that they are a special people. I think the GB are becoming more aware of that, and so have cut back on heavy doctrine, and now push more the idea that they are the chosen ones, and there are no one else on earth like JWs. The doctrine are basically just filler to make the religion look legitimate.

I think you might be on to something, there.

I think that is the reason so many JW's get the "deer in the headlights" look when you show that they are far from special (apart from being "Special Needs") .

"Who else uses Jehovah's name ?"

"Who else is preaching world-wide ?

    Blah Blah Blah."

All those sort of questions can be countered, and it can be shown that others do it better.

They are far from special, but will they look at the evidence, and even if they did, would they consider it valid ?

No, most would have some ridiculous way of dismissing the solid evidence.

You cannot reason with Blind Faith.

They are not helped to think. They recite words. That is it.

Prompted by this Thread Mrs Phizzy and I were discussing yesterday the "quality" of today's JW's as defenders of their religion.

We discussed how just a few decades ago, a good number in the Cong. could make a good defence of their faith to anybody, going toe to toe on Scripture with Priests and Vicars etc

We realise that young JW's cannot do this today, due to a lack of training and no real personal study, but we think that even those same old JW's who did a good job those decades ago, could not do so today !

How can you explain "overlapping generations" with a straight face ? and the other unique doctrines of JW's

on blood, 1914 etc etc are simply not defensible.

Amen to the quote JWFacts listed!

Why allow something as trivial as "truth" or "facts" to get in the way of a witness's mindset??

They just follow whatever they are told....don't allow thinking to get in the way of that! After all, the "GB does all our thinking for us!"
