Calling God By His Name?

Why do Jehovahs Witnesses insist on calling god Jehovah?

Would you call your father, dad, or whatever by his first name?

If we were created by god and he is indeed our "heavenly father", then would it not be blasphemous to call him by his first name?

Imagine being a child and calling your dad by his first name all the time... wouldn't that piss him off?

The WTBTS takes it upon themselves to put god's name in the bible where it does NOT BELONG, just because they think it's right... PLEASE!

    Any thoughts on this?

Jehovah isn't a name I like - I respect the fact that some people call Jehovah - but Jehovah that is promoted in jwism is not for me.

Da - what about da - parents can recognise a child's "cry".

I have never liked the word Jehovah. I don't like Yahweh either. In fact, I feel absolutley nothing whenever I use these names or simply God, Jesus or whatever. I really want to use a name that makes me feel like something out there is listening to me, but I am still looking. All this stuff about calling out to Jehovah whenever you need help or are distressed - it just does nothing for me. I always felt such a fraud praying before and after Bible studies when the prayers meant diddly.

Well first to have a name you need somebody to give you one ... otherwise you are just "you" ... but hey you can chose a name
but you are right (to me about what you are saying)

I have a clue why they did insist about that (the only one who did) and it was very smart to do that ... It works !!!

God is a name IN FACT (if their is only one god) ... anyway to me, till now there is none ...

And the most interesting is : why didn't they keep it as YAWEH ???
They knew that some people wouldn't like it ... and they took the freedom to change it their way ... which is a kind of blasphemy !!!

Since Jehovah is God and he is our father, I will call him Dad from now on.

    Good question,

especially when you know how the word & spelling of Jehovah came about. (14th cent catholic monk, taking vowels from 2 different words)

Even better question when you analyze the syllables. --hovah is recorded in Strong's concordance as #1943 with the meaning "mischief." (as in god of...)

Doesn't the bible say somewhere that (paraphrasing) the holy spirit will translate our groans to be understood by God ? In other words "special words" aren't even necessary. It is just another way to keep the group separate, their God is their's alone mentality.

If we were created by god and he is indeed our "heavenly father",

Can you set me straight on this? While I was reading the WTs this year having to do with the memorial, on who is entitled to partake, etc. It seemed to say that the only ones that were sons of God were the ones in the new covenant and the only ones in the new covenant were the heavenly class - the anointed. The rest could aspire to be "friends" of God if they chose to be in the org and benefit from these elite. So by WT teaching seems you technically cannot even call Jehovah - father. Is this THE TRUTH?

Why do Jehovahs Witnesses insist on calling god Jehovah?

Because it makes them stand out as different. Very few religions use that name for God. I hated the reasoning that "well you need to use his name to differentiate between the others gods." Um, isn't there supposed to be only one true God? So shouldn't "God" be enough?

JWs argue about trivial things all the time. They made a huge deal about Jesus dying on a stake, not a cross. Why? What does it really matter? Isn't the important thing supposed to be that he died for our sins? But making a big deal about tons of little things make members feel special...like they have some secret knowledge.

Why is it that nobody argues about Jesus's name, but everybody argues about Jehovah's name?
