I've had two witnesses tell me that this is false (apostrate) info from the 5/22/94 AWAKE!
I got it from the page of the AJWRB Website, and it's supposedly from p. 2 of AWAKE! They tell me that's wrong...so...is it out of context? Is this what it really says?
"In former times thousands of youths died for putting God first. They are still doing it, only today the drama is payed out in hospitals and courtrooms, with blood transfusions the issue."
They do mean by saying "Thousands of youths have DIED" that this is on account of their blood policy, or is it just in general?
I have no way to check this (naturally) I don't have any AWAKE! mags...could someone help me? Anyone have a scan, or maybe could put it in context if its not.
danke schon

I don't have a scan but this is from the WT-CD 2001
*** g94 5/22 2 Page Two ***
Youths Who Put God First 3-15In former times thousands of youths died for putting God first. They are still doing it, only today the drama is played out in hospitals and courtrooms, with blood transfusions the issue.
I think when it says "in former times" that it wasn't necessarily because of the blood issue that these youths died, but rather for standing up for a scriptural principle, i.e., neutrality, etc.

Myxomatosis, I don't think that Awake! is actually admitting that thousands of youths have died over the blood issue (although I certainly think that thousands have), but that some youths today die over the blood issue, just as thousands died in the past over other issues.

Hi.
You could turn this situation naround quite easily to your own 'apostate' benefit. As I have always said, my friend, if they pull out a fist, you pull out a knife. If they pull out a knife, you pull out a gun.
Examine these two quotes.
Watchtower 1998 December 1 p14 Defending our faith
Jehovah's Witnesses have been targets of false accusations, barefaced lies and twisted presentations of their beliefs.
The accusation that numerous children of Jehovah's Witnesses die each year as a result of refusing blood transfusions is totally unfounded.
Awake! May 22 1994 p2
Youths who put God first
In former times thousands of youths died for putting God first. They are still doing it, only today the drama is played out in hospitals and courtrooms, with blood transfusions the issue.

10. Are we personally alert, so that no unrighteousness is found on our lips? For example, can our family members really trust what we say? Can our spiritual brothers and sisters in the congregation do the same? It would be easy to develop the habit of couching one?s words in terms that are technically accurate but misleading.
I think most JWs could learn from this.

Is there a underlying directive here to be honest ONLY with family members and members of the congregation? Or maybe I'm seeing the devil everywhere I turn. :-) -

" ........ putting God first. They are still doing it ......"
THAT is the clue. The sentence or wording is not too good, as it can be misunderstood, but what they are saying, is that just as thousands of youths were putting God first in earlier times, they are likewise doing that today.

Nevermind what we have to say, check out 'Quotes' site.
It, sort of 'speaks for itself'.
Give it a click. It's quotes from the WTBTS publications. Not ours!

Only that the last part of the sentence should have been highlighter "putting God first", in stead of the first part, "thousands have died". Cleverly done, but nonetheless wrong. Twists the sentence 180 degrees around.
