The Greek name Apollyon is a sarcastic play on words with the name of one of the most famous gods of paganism, Apollo.
Therefore, Apollyon corresponds to the Greek Apollo, who was originally a Hittite-Babylonian god, and later became the protector god of the empire in Rome. The apostle John, purely in mockery, makes the protective deity of the empire into the destructive prince of the underworld.
Abaddon in Greek is called Apollyon, which means "destroyer". The word refers to the name Apollo, which the Greeks also derive from the verb apollymi. Scorpions are very venomous, they sting quickly, and their sting, if prompt help does not arrive, causes death.
"There is no sign of God on their foreheads" = they are not among the elect to be protected from the punitive judgment (Rev. 7,3).

The angel of the abyss is one of the evil spirits who differ from each other in terms of power and authority (Eph. 6,12).
Abaddon = Apollion = Exterminans. The fulfillment of this prophecy about the hellish locust army can also be demonstrated in Jewish history. The Jews were already in the time of Christ, outwardly full of holy deeds, inwardly full of evil (Matthew 12,44.45). But their fallen state, after committing the horrendous Messiah murder, has been growing ever since, peaking just before and during the Jewish war. Totally divided into factions that persecute and torment each other, immersed in all evil, devoid of all virtue, trampling human and divine rights underfoot, and driven only by blind rage and the most unappeasable hatred, shortly before their complete destruction, they were true images of satanic evil and examples of such fear, despair, and spiritual abandonment, as only Satan could create. Flavius Josephus, also a Jew and partly an eyewitness to this misery, describes this terrible state. However, we should not overlook the fact that this punitive judgment also includes both the near future, outside the time of the Jewish war, and at the same time the distant one, the last time; because Satan's rage, the power given to him to tempt and torment people, in the extent presented here, will only literally and literally occur in the final era, shortly before the public trial (20. v.), so that everything he does before this era is just a prefiguration of his last and most violent efforts.

According to the apocalyptic image, smoke first bursts from the depths, which blurs the sun and the air. The life-giving sunlight disappears as a sign of judgment. A scorpion's sting in Palestine is fatal only to children. It only causes torment to adults. The torment caused by the demons is similar, but still quite different. It probably causes spiritual distress. It is possible that today the seer would describe this torment with different terms of neurosis. Because of the torment, people "seek death," they want to flee into death, but death "flees from them." Man cannot escape from God's judgment into death. There are questions that death does not solve. Verse 6. highlights the parainetic character of Revelation.
The power of the locust-like demonic creatures lasts for five months (v. 5). The five months is the lifespan of a locust, on the other hand, it is a specific round number (cf. Gen 7:24; cf. Mt 25:15; Lk 12:6; 14:19; 1Cor 14:19). There is a limit to the raging of demons. Their release does not mean their permanent rule. God remains the Lord in the world.
The seer describes in detail the appearance of the demonic creatures. They are similar to war horses, they have a crown on their heads, their faces are human faces, their manes are like women's hair, their teeth are lion's teeth, their clothing is like iron armor, their voices are like the sound of chariots rushing into battle. Attractive appearance, human face, and behind it lion's teeth, demonic distortion, which, however, also points to the essential features of sin and evil.
The demonic armies also have a king, his name is Abaddon. This name corresponds to the meaning of Sheol and abyss. Job 28:22 personifies it. In the Rabbinic and Mandaean literature, it is the deepest part of hell. The Hebrew name hides the secret of this angelic being appearing in royal form. After the "five months" have passed, the plague subsides, but the judgment continues. The seer signals that the judgment has not yet reached its climax. One "woe", i.e., a wave of pain and terror has passed, but there are still two more to come.

In Daniel chapter 2, the feet of iron and clay come out of the Roman power. The UN comes out of the US/UK which is out of the Roman power.
In Daniel chapter 7, the fourth beast is Rome. The horns are the nations descended from the Roman power. The three horns of Austria-Hungary, Italy, and Germany were humiliated by the Allies/LeagueNations/UN with treaties that stripped them of power/land/control after the world wars.
"As for the ten horns, ten kings will rise up out of that kingdom; and still another one will rise up after them, and he will be different from the first ones, and he will humiliate three kings. He will speak words against the Most High, and he will continually harass the holy ones of the Supreme One. He will intend to change times and law, and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time. But the Court sat, and they took away his rulership, in order to annihilate him and to destroy him completely." (Daniel 7:24-26)
The UN world power is different from the other kingdoms. The UN world power will be allowed to attack religion for time, times and half a time. The UN power will be in place when the God's kingdom comes at the end of the 3 1/2 times and destroys all governments in opposition to God's kingdom.
In Daniel chapter 8, the small horn initially is the US/UK but it becomes the UN.
"And in the final part of their kingdom, as the transgressors act to a completion, a fierce-looking king who understands ambiguous sayings will stand up. His power will become great, but not through his own power. He will bring ruin in an extraordinary way, and he will be successful and act effectively. He will bring mighty ones to ruin, also the people made up of the holy ones. And by his cunning he will use deception to succeed; and in his heart he will exalt himself; and during a time of security he will bring many to ruin. He will even stand up against the Prince of princes, but he will be broken without human hand." (Daniel 8:23-25)
The UN leader will become "great, but not through his own power." He will bring ruin in an extraordinary way during the great tribulation when he, as the head of the UN, authorizes the attack on all religious institutions. Jesus will see that the UN leader is "broken without human hand" at the end of the appointed times of the nations, namely, the three and a half times of the great tribulation.
Daniel chapter 11:44,45 is talking about Putin. He is coming to his end, and there is no helper for him. Daniel 12:1 says that "During that time" (namely, while Putin is coming to his end) "Miʹcha·el will stand up, the great prince who is standing in behalf of your people. And there will occur a time of distress such as has not occurred since there came to be a nation until that time." In other words, during the time we are now living it, Jesus will take the throne in heaven. The great tribulation will begin after Jesus throws Satan out of heaven, as is stated in Revelation.
"It will be for an appointed time, appointed times, and half a time. As soon as the dashing to pieces of the power of the holy people comes to an end, all these things will come to their finish." (Daniel 12:7)
In Luke 21:24 Jesus referred to this time, times and half a time as the appointed times of the nations. "And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled."
When the 3 1/2 years of the great tribulation is over, in other words, when the UN has had their day to prove that human governments without religious institutions are completely unable to solve the world's problems, then Jesus will come and save the day.
"“Also, there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth anguish of nations not knowing the way out because of the roaring of the sea and its agitation. People will become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But as these things start to occur, stand up straight and lift up your heads, because your deliverance is getting near.” With that he told them an illustration: “Notice the fig tree and all the other trees. When they are budding, you see it for yourselves and know that now the summer is near. Likewise also you, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near. Truly I say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all things happen. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away." (Luke 21:25-33)
The "generation" of faithful ones that sees the beginning of the tribulation will live to see the end of it, because it is only 3 1/2 years.
The verses in Revelation about the 42 months are also talking about the UN trampling on religion for the 3 1/2 years. True worshippers will be affected by the cruelty of the UN.
"But as for the courtyard that is outside the temple sanctuary, leave it out and do not measure it, because it has been given to the nations, and they will trample the holy city underfoot for 42 months." (Revelation 11:2)
"And they worshipped the dragon because it gave the authority to the wild beast, and they worshipped the wild beast with the words: “Who is like the wild beast, and who can do battle with it?” It was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and it was given authority to act for 42 months. And it opened its mouth in blasphemies against God to blaspheme his name and his dwelling place, even those residing in heaven. It was permitted to wage war with the holy ones and conquer them, and it was given authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation." (Revelation 13:4-7)
"If anyone has an ear, let him hear. If anyone is meant for captivity, he will go into captivity. If anyone will kill with the sword, he must be killed with the sword. This is where it calls for endurance and faith on the part of the holy ones." (Revelation 13:9,10)
Jesus will give us the strength we need when we need it. Love for him and for God and for each other will help us endure.

Revelation 20:1-3 show it is definitely Jesus himself who is the angel with the key to the abyss.
Jesus is the one who has been appointed king of them and actually king over everything in the universe.
Jesus was the one who had a battle with Satan and the demons and who defeated them in heaven and cast them to the earth.
Jesus is king over them in the sense that they are his prisoners and he is Abaddon the destroyer the one who holds they key to the abyss and will let them out for a short time after 1000years, then he will destroy them completely the second death which there is no coming back from

What should be kept in mind is that the book of Revelation was written by a Jew and has a predominantly Semitic background. The origin of the Hebrew name Abaddon should bring us closer to what John meant.
This is why I stick to the interpretation of Hebrew “Abaddon.”
I believe the star falling from the sky is an angel. By the way, it fell and was not cast down. Big difference (cf. Rev. 1:16, 20). And why would God allow Satan the keys of the abyss? Won’t help locking him in the abyss if he has the keys. He would also not allow Jesus to be resurrected if he was in control of the keys (cf. Rom. 10:7; Rev. 20:1, 2).
Also don’t think God would involve Himself with Astrology. God hates astrologers and their craft. He will never use astrological signs as a means of fulfilling prophecy (cf. Is. 47:13, 14 NJB; Jer. 10:2 CJB).
Five months is not exactly “a while.” I’d say an hour or half an hour is “a while” (cf. Rev. 8:1). I believe it to be a literal 5 months. After five months it would be a good idea to get out of the cities (cf. Rev. 11:13; 16:19).
I don’t view Sheol, Gehenna as “hell.” It’s a theological construct of Christendom. You are actually saying, as many theologians do, that God is going to use demon hordes to do His will, execute His judgment and fulfill prophecy. I don’t see that at all.

I agree. For Abaddon, I put my money on Satan. And the locust-scorpions are the troops of the beast from the abyss, which is the UN. I prefer to keep the Anglo-American world power (beast from the earth/false prophet) and the UN (beast from the abyss) separate. At the end both will be thrown in the lake of fire (cf. Rev. 19:20).
Dan. 2 Ten toes of iron and clay (all the nations) = Ten horns/kings of Revelation (Rev. 17:12, 16) all concentrated in the UN (beast from the abyss).
Perhaps one should not be too dogmatic in this instance. You take the basis for your understanding the creative days. So, do you believe these are 24h days? I believe these are not supposed to be taken literally (cf. Gen. 2:4).

I see you’re still stuck with Watchtower theology as regards the destruction of Babylon the Great. This will occur at the end of the tribulation (not the beginning). See Rev. 16:19.

Let’s first identify the temple. This is all of God’s people on earth (Gal. 6:15, 16; cf. 1 Cor. 3:16, 17; 2 Cor. 6:16; Eph. 2:21, 22). The temple will be measured, meaning God takes ownership of it. It will remain intact through the tribulation (Rev. 7:9,14). The courtyard will be trampled by the nations for 42 months. This is where the dining rooms of the priests are situated. They will be persecuted till the end of the tribulation. Half of them will be killed, other half will be fetched by Jesus after the tribulation (cf. Ezek. 42:1; Dan. 12:7; Matt. 24:29, 31). This will take place during the second half of the tribulation.

No, I disagree. Jesus is to become king of the Messianic kingdom over the earth. God is Sovereign of the Universe.
God’s kingship of the universe is to time indefinite, even forever (Ps. 10:16a; 29:10b; 146:10 NW; Jer. 10:7, 10; Zech. 14:9, 17; 1 Tim. 1:17; cf. Rev. 15:3; 19:6). Jesus’ Messianic kingship is to have an enduring future, i.e., a thousand years (Ps. 45:6, 17; 1 Cor. 15:24-28; Rev. 20:3, 4).

No, I disagree. Jesus is to become king of the Messianic kingdom over the earth. God is Sovereign of the Universe.
God’s kingship of the universe is to time indefinite, even forever (Ps. 10:16a; 29:10b; 146:10 NW; Jer. 10:7, 10; Zech. 14:9, 17; 1 Tim. 1:17; cf. Rev. 15:3; 19:6). Jesus’ Messianic kingship is to have an enduring future, i.e., a thousand years (Ps. 45:6, 17; 1 Cor. 15:24-28; Rev. 20:3, 4).
yes Jesus is king of Gods kingdom. It makes sense looking at Rev 9:11 that Jesus would be called the king over them.
