How far do we get away from 1914 before they have a new light and admit it was all wrong?

they cling to the old theory of the 77 week prophecy from the wrong date that Jerusalem was destroyed

with the overlapping generations nonsense still we are getting too far away from 1914

what will they say if we get to the 2030s and they still cling to 1914?

This whole religion is based on 1914. I think the bigger question is how many people would wake up if 1914 was ditched?

I believe the 7th day adventists still hang onto 1843/44 (William Miller's dates).

There's certainly no danger of the WTS running out of goofy / failed religious movements to copy from.

I agree, they could ditch 1914, but that seems very unlikely. It's more probable that they would attempt to come up with some new interpretation of things.

I can say this, my PIMI father in law, when confronted, was fine devaluing 1914, putting it to the side, and falling back on "it's a good way to live", "there are a lot of well meaning people", "it's a great comminuty" type of argument.

If they were going to attempt a removal of 1914, they would have to do it over a long period of time. De-emphasize it, start to make it a minor point, so that it wouldn't be such a shock.

Too many people are in for the social aspect and many are stuck in due to family/work. No one really mentions prophecy anymore. It’s not like it used to be.

No need to admit anything. Just let it slowly disappear like the 7,000 year long creative days.

They should have let it go years ago. But they're faced with the difficulty of changing all their prophetic views. A big and intimidating task.

The old doctrines seem to have less meaning. The 1914 doctrine combined with the "generation" Jesus spoke of has been replaced with JW Broadcasting stating "We are living in the final part of the Last Days. Undoubtedly, the final part of the final part of the Last Days, shortly before the final day of the Last Days."

Well, it is for Stephen Lett, he won’t be around much longer at his age! 😀

That's what I think. They are hoping that they can keep it together long enough for people to forget how important 1914 was to their whole racket, and then they can drop it and eventually relegate it to a footnote.

The problem is that, once that happens, they don't really have anything left. What will they emphasize as evidence that they were blessed by god from the start? 1975?
