We're losing species by the shit-load every day and the hole in the ozone is dramatically increasing. Be concerened)

I see where you're going with that statement. inevitably we will be talking about global warming, "the greenhouse effect," Kyoto, and all that. I will address now how I think about this.

there is no consensus anywhere among scientists on the issue of global warming. In other words, has the earth's surface temperature changed so much in the past 140 years? Can someone plot on a graph for me the average recorded surface temperature for each year since 1875 to now? If you do this, you'll probably see that the earth's temperature has risen by 1 degree celsius. So this has really affected vegetation, plantlife and species right? Yes and no. Way back when during the last ice age, the Earth's temperature rose by 8 degrees celsius in a single decade. Even after the last ice age, surface temperature changed drastically between periods of time--and that depended on where the readings were taken. So when people talk about global warming and changes in climate, I can't help but wonder: can we really presume that natural climate is tranquil and predictable? How much blame can we really put on industrialization for alterations in the species life and climate? Sure there are industries that have exploited nature. But to say that the gaping hole in the ozone layer and the wildlife dying and desertification is heading us straight into catastrophe.........it all makes me skeptical.

Not sure any of us is qualified to debate the science of global warming... but the risk vs the reward is pretty simple. If we decide to play it safe, all it costs is money. If we don't play it safe and we're wrong about that decision, we don't get to hit "Undo" - many of those costs are irreversible.

My father applied pesticides professionally for 20 years. As he was dying of a rare cancer, he read Silent Spring by Rachel Carson, and said that he had seen the things described in the book with his own eyes. The question isn't if we are affecting the natural world - the question is, do we understand what we are doing? If we don't, why are we doing it?

Wow. I like the way you put that. It summarizes my thoughts better and more effectively than I could have. Simply put, to be cavalier and unconcerned about the environment is sociopathic.

A nice thing about most environmental solutions, is that they are almost invariably connected to efficiency, so they really don't end up "costing" in the big picture.

I have always voted republican, however, I find myself more thinking independent. I don't want to adhere to only one sided political viewpoint. I do feel that there are complete idiots that are both democrats and republicans. I have to go with what I feel is right.

I believe in a flat tax, and do not agree at all with the extra taxing of the wealthy.

I am glad that some welfare is out there for those who actually need it, but I despise those who abuse it.

I would rather a person be taught to fish instead of just giving them one.

I like this statement. I am kind of the same way. I think Independent. I am also very Libertarian in my views of keeping government the hell out of our lives as much as possible. I am a registered Democrat only because the Republican party has become scary to me. I see groups like the Christian Coalition pulling the strings in that party and wonder, how did the party of Lincoln ever let that cancer into their midst? On the other hand I look at the actions of Bill Clinton in the Lewinsky scandal and think, what the hell was he thinking? Obviously his brain couldn't get enough oxygen inside her mouth.

I am by no means a far left liberal, but I am concerned about the environment and wonder why we can't achieve a balance? We've only got one basket of eggs here.

If I lived in California, while I wouldn't have voted for Arnold, I would have voted for a recall. From what I read about Davis, I don't think he would have improved in the next three years like he promised. I don't have a problem with Arnold governing there because his views are very moderate. I do think he should clear up the allegations made by those women, though.

I read a lot and try to vary my sources of media so I get several sides of the issues. I even read newspapers of other countries on the Internet, just to get a balanced idea of what the rest of the world is saying about us. I really seriously believe in my responsibility to be an informed voter. I sincerely hope I leave the world in a much better place for future generations.

Logansrun : I started this thread is that politics is extremely confusing for me

Politic is made to be confusing : "divide and rule" It won't change without ... (LOL - not gonna say yet or Never finally)

There will be always a good side in each political side (the problems are coming from those who just want the power and the money - division and no balance - even with those who claim working for environement - here is the problem - with them also : no balance)

We can vote, of course for those you feel better, but as soon as they will have the crown they will forget about what you want and need if it doesn't fit with what they want and need (any side - them first while they got the means). In fact this way we still have no permanent control (and they can cheat on us whenever they want for their own benefit)
