What irks me is the completely talentless generally female teenage clones, wailing and writhing like seagulls, that assualt your eardrums absolutely everywhere. They look the same, sound the same and are the same as each other.
Yeah, I agree. However, at least some of the female artists, like Avril Lavigne, have songs with a more alternative/techno/poppy taste, instead of this boring ass easy listening shit John Mayer sings.
My husband has a nearly pathological aversion to John Mayer. Whenever "Your body is a wonderland" is played he does a werewolf-like transformation and raves about his poor enunciation and vocal control. It's kind of disturbing, really.
I'm ambivalent. I think his first single was catchy, but I'm not going to be tossing my panties on stage at him anytime soon...
John Mayer tried to be Dave Matthews, and does not come anywhere close.

Oxnard, it sounds like your complaint is with the commercialization of radio (as if that's a recent phenomenon.) I think it is a valid complaint and you chould voice it directly to the likes of Clear Channel Communication. However, the same can be said of the alt-rock mainstream. I'm not even sure why they call it alternative anymore since it is not the alternative to anything
By the way, speaking of genius singer songwriters...Elliott Smith commited suicide this week. Very upsetting.
I like John Mayer - but I'm only familiar with his first released song.
I also like Dave Mathews -but the CD I have sucks. Which means, I probably won't try another one. Anyone have suggestions on his CD's?
I like male gravelly voices.
I don't like most female singers.
Actually, Queen & Cheap Trick will always be my fav. - 'though neither are gravelly voices.

Awesome music - upbeat original rock and beautiful ballads - he has the type of voice you like - and the guitar is AMAZING (he's Ozzie's guitarist).
If you're looking for slow, depressing music, try Tom Waits, an old standby gravelly-voice guy or Leonard Cohen.
