Instead of turning in your Flock book... maybe you could "loose" it. Those books are VERY valuable when the WTS denies that it teaches something that is clearly outlined in the book.

Maybe you could "loose" your book and request a replacement... then turn in the replacement when you resign.

Back in 1984 I resigned as an elder because I was going back to college to get my degree and wouldn't be able to attend weekday meetings because of classes. Though some of the elders tried to talk me out of resigning saying they would lighten my duties, I refused to withdraw my resignation. However, that was 20 years ago. Today I don't know if they will let you resign so that you can finish your education. But as others have mentioned family responsibilities and health are still good reasons to use if there are any problems with the body of elders or the CO.

Tell the PO you're depressed. Give it a few weeks then tell him you resign, no need to put it in writing. That's what I did 2 1/2 years ago.

    Good luck.

Before you turn in your letter, practice creative unreliability for a few months; i.e. dumping talks or, better yet, large parts on the serivce meeting w/demonstrations, on the others... all at the last possible minute; ditto with KH cleaning assignments or taking out the group... they'll be glad to get rid of you.

Ironic, isn't it, that all the advice on this thread has to do with NOT telling the truth and simply saying you're fed up with the scam and you're not going to play anymore? What does that say about the cult status of this organization? Brave men reduced to making lame excuses and hoping not to get busted, all because the org holds our families and our reputations over our heads ("we have your family and we're not afraid to use them!").

I'm sympathetic, as I'm in the middle of a similar process -- as so many are.

willyloman made a great point. Someone I chatted to on another board put it very concisely, while still in the organisation:

"You know what is interesting.. this IS the truth yet you can't TELL the truth."

    I thought that was brilliant.

Best wishes, willyloman, I'm thinking of you. Regards, Ken

You can say that you have financial problems and you are missing some of the meetings, and you cannot respond anymore of the "elders duties". Say that this is only temporary until you will recover from the financial mess you are into.

    This is step one

Step 2: Start missing meetings starting with the Theocratic Minestry, then the Watchtower, and finally the book study. From time to time you can attend to the puplic talk of the C.O's, and never miss a Memorial. The JW's appreciate when you attend to their Memorial and they will say that Brother X is still showing some appreciation for the spiritual things!!!

NEVER say that you have DOUBTS (they come from the devil)

NEVER question the GB. That is an AUTOMATIC WAY to be disfellowship

Oh, and if I was in the US, I additionally could vote Democrat, claim mental incompetence and start acting totally nuts (I thought that applied to all - southern - Californians anyway... oops, sorry avishai :-) [Stray thought: pity more Californians weren't 'mentally incompetent' recently!]

    LOL

It's OK, Ken, Ilive in N california, & I'm a libertarian. Also a good actor, I've done some theatre, so that's why I suggested teh "King David" routine.

    Hello again It support,

You probably do not want to do it the way I did. I was after the last two CO's every visit for the unloving way they were treating the friends. The last one got to gossiping about the whole body of elders so the elder body authorized two of us to confront him officially. He backed off and apologized to the body but started a campaign to get me out one way or another. I was already reading Ray Franz's books and only fought the turkey because he was so wrong. When he utterly failed to get me removed, I resigned. At least the CO didn't come around trying to change my mind.

The body of elders was a little disappointed but knew something was up so they didn't pressure me to stay on either. We all knew it was over for me. My wife was reading Ray's books by then so we both were missing meetings a lot. We did not get to fade as planned, but that is another story.

Nice to have you aboard IT.
