In my experience, people who have lots of personas and accounts almost invariably cause trouble.

Hey! I thought we settled that!

I think you should be who you are regardless of what board your on. People appreciate and recognize honesty.

In the past I have been on several discussion boards at one time (pro JW boards). [I am only here now.] Any way, I was different on each of those boards even though I was posting on them at the same time. However, I was still me on all of them. Here is my reasoning for why I think you might see a difference from one place to another: If you think about it, you can have several circles of friends and depending on which group of friends you are spending time with or even which combination of those same friends, you might find the 'mood' in the room different. It doesn't mean that any of the moods are wrong or pretence, but instead different personalities bring out different sides of us. I have found that discussion boards can bring out different sides to us too or at least they have with me in the past.

    Simon-

SP: No one is reprimanded for anything.

People are free to post anything they like anywhere else.

Not true. I would be willing to give an example, but I fear I'd be reprimanded for it.

They would have to be dumb to post insulting comments and lies about me, my family and my friends though and then expect to post on here as if nothing had happened. I am free to decide that people who do this are not welcome to use this site.

Very true. I'd delete someone if I felt this was the case as well. No regrets either. I have said this on other boards.

In my experience, people who have lots of personas and accounts almost invariably cause trouble. It is inherantly deceptive IMHO.

    I agree.

    HS-

Sometimes what people 'feel' is just a feeling and not a reality.

I never said otherwise. Nevertheless we all feel on a regular basis, whether founded or unfounded. That being the case, some "feel" like they might be reprimanded if they use the same screenname. Do you disagree?

It is true that one other Board, perhaps one that you have in mind, does show a particular and grossly dysfunctional animosity toward many who post on this Board, but that does not mean that there is a reciprocation with posters here.

Right. . . I will argue the "grossly dysfunctional animosity" statement at a later date. Jon and I are leaving right now, but I'd really like to devote some time to those 3 words.

They do not know me as a person, and I hardly know them, so why should I really be bothered.

No one asked you to be or said you should be.

Relax SP all will be well in the end

I am relaxed and I don't understand the motivation behind this statement.

I Post here and occasionally at ChannelC using my 'HS' name. I am taken far more seriously on ChannelC becuase everybody thinks that 'HS' stands for the Holy Spirit.

I find you rather Holy as well.

Don't you luvs Cut & Paste?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The Lad doth have a valid point. As it happens, Simon and myself do have conflicting views on various subjects, mostly to do with the Great Game and with our differing political ideals.

Just as Simon would be a guest at one of my barbies and argue his case against mine politely out of respect for me, as is becoming to his guest status, so I return the courtesy and and argue politely - well, reasonably politely - against his political beliefs at his site. (They are both really odd, BTW, for God's sake, he supports Manchester City!!! Just don't get me started on left wingers either....)

The thing is, there's no serious insults flying around. We actually act like gentlemen. If I was at serious odds with him I'd leave here. I probably wouldn't take up residence at SIMON.COM if I did, where I feel quite happy to occasionally insult the elected head honcho, mainly because he secretly enjoys it, even if this does cause some disparity amongst those who can't quite twigg onto the fact that a Censorship free board doesn't actually say it's censorship free to everyone else except a moderator.

The other thing is the simple fact that it really is a dumb thing to do, to insult a board owner and expect there to be no repercussions.

    SP,

I never said otherwise. Nevertheless we all feel on a regular basis, whether founded or unfounded. That being the case, some "feel" like they might be reprimanded if they use the same screenname. Do you disagree?

Of course some may 'feel' this way, my point was that if that feeling is not based on a reality then perhaps the person who 'feel's this way needs to look to themselves as to why.

Right. . . I will argue the "grossly dysfunctional animosity" statement at a later date. Jon and I are leaving right now, but I'd really like to devote some time to those 3 words.

I have already explained why I use this phrase and given examples on a previous post which you commented on. Please note my previously noted points as to comparisons reagrding moderators behaving like 'elders', on-line boards being like 'kingdom halls' and the like, merely because the moderators are applying exactly the same methodology that is used on most every discussion Board on the Internet NOT run by XJW's. This is not normal behavior but certainly displays dysfunctional reasoning. It becomes 'gross' when despite evidence to the contrary a person chooses to sidestep the challenges of the evidence.

I am relaxed and I don't understand the motivation behind this statement.

Well, you do seem to have been a little strung out on this issue recently. Or is that just my perception? I apologize in advance if I have misread the situation.

I find you rather Holy as well.

Thank you my child - go in peace....
