    so true

Yes, they did take a lot away from us. One of the things I tell myself, however, is that once I can acknowledge the abuse, start to move on from it. You just got married, you're young and in love - start a new pattern, look to your hubbie for support (and the same for him) and leave the JW behind. I'm so happy for you, being able to start fresh as a young woman with a loving partner!!!!

I know several high caliber athletes...Another young lady my age (for whom I had a long unrequited love) was easily the brightest and funniest person I've ever known...she cleans houses and pioneers (although she did marry well). I mentioned during my high school days wanting to become a writer, get a degree for teaching or attend a tony culinary school. All were shot down for the pioneer and bethel plan.

They didn't care what you could do...just get a menial job to pay the bills, clean up at hall builds and coventions and don't think. That attitude is a travesty to God. I should ask his forgiveness for allowing a narrowminded group of jackanapes to convince me to squander my gifts that he gave me. I really hope I can make up for lost time.

At a summer convention, a little 10 y.o. robot was paraded in front of the stage and told his experience to the audience. He was supposed to receive a chance to play with a statewide grade school band, but declined to attend because it may feature military, patriotic or holiday music (understandable within the doctrine). They then offered to remove all objectionable music, and he still refused...It was on a meeting night. They even offered to MOVE THE DATE of the ENTIRE PERFORMANCE...he STILL said no...He wanted to go out in service that day.

The place went wild...I almost cried. I wondered how much he would kick himself in 10 years when he realized his gifts would never be used at all. The society doesn't need you to write, sing, act, create, perform, or imagine...Just try harder at what they say matters. Why does Jehovah give us these gifts if they aren't supposed to be used?

They must really be placed there by Satan to distract us....our God-given talents are Satanic curses!

I really am nauseous(sp) at the thought

You are still young enough to follow your dreams......You are out of that cult now,so you go get what you want......yes,I do agree that your parents held you back from being what you wanted and that was not fair.I understand.I think it is fair to say that alot of us of been there. The monipulation and control was part of their routine that they were following by "The Troof"..You can only change this now sweet heart. My heart crys for you because I was there and really do know how you feel....When I finally left......I returned to school to finish my ged at 23.(with 2 very young children) So if I can do it you can........Follow your dreams......

No, they made me what i am today, taught me to speak to people and educate them. Now i am in the airforce and a weapons instructor and i owe it all to the ministry school, how ironic is that.

It sucks that so much of our lives were wrapped up within the organization. Whether it be a few years, or several dozen years.

What matters now, is that do not let that keep us from being to accomplish what we want to now. Go live your dreams, make things happen. Don't sit idle. Show everyone what you are really made of.

If you're good at singing, the only approved way to pursue your talent is through service at Bethel and singing on a kingdom melody CD.
