Besides, does it really hurt to give someone the benefit of the doubt? I don't think so. Some of us like to believe that we know more about people than we really do. We may be smart and discerning but we're NOT God.

Minimus,
Some of us like to believe that we know more about people than we really do .
Someone I know thinks that they can work someone out on the very first meeting??.personally I find that ......frightening!!
I like to think that I give people the benefit of the doubt, but in reality I think it?s sometimes difficult. I certainly don?t pretend to know people ?people change?.that?s what we have to remember. I have....... people do
There again, I feel that I can read my JW friends mind like a book! ?..see how difficult this question is??

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt and did here for a long time. Now I have my guard back up and really trust very few.

Sheila, I can understand that. I think we can't be believing everything a person might say, especially if it sounds questionable. My point is that sometimes, we might THINK we know people a certain way and we could either be disappointed or pleasantlt surprised....I like the 2nd option better.

The answer is relative to how well the person is known by me and relative to what they're saying/asking/doing.

I go on gut instinct. If something tells me, be wary around that person, I automatically judge them as someone I don't want around. I go the other way too, usually if I like somebody and have fun with them, I liked them immediately when I met them.

I try not to let other people's opinions direct whom I will associate with.
