No. That's like saying a apple chooses to be eaten by us. Religion is there for the taking of the takers. Gumby

The Unitarians are probably the nicest group of christian/non christian people I have been around. They don't even mind if you are athiest, you can still be there for the fellowship. Otherwise I would probably be inclined towards one of the eastern religions maybe buddhism.

I would go for a flava of American Buddhism. Unitarians are cool, but they're just too mellow, nonjudgmental, and accepting - I need more rejection.

On Hinduism:
I studied it before I studied with the JWs. Eyeslice, they don't just need to improve their treatment of men, they need to improve their treatment of women. I thought a lot of what the eastern religions taught made sense until I looked at the atrocious treatment of women and little girls under them. I also don't like the caste system and the abject poverty a lot of Hindus live in. There are a lot of people in India.
I knew a guy whose mother was British and his father was Indian. He traveled to India and spent a couple of months. He did say the people there are very poor but they don't seem to mind. He changed for the better while he was there.
I don't care for organized religion but if I had to choose a church I think the Episcopal or Anglican for those of you who outside the USA. I grew up in it. They were very loving, tolerant and didn't shove doctrine down your throat. It's very pretty and similar to Catholicism but without the POPE and his outdated rules on birthcontrol and women, etc. I am not Christian and I don't know that I could ever be again.

As an aside, if you haven't seen Eddie Izzard's Dress to Kill show, his bit about the origins of the Anglican faith is hilarious (as is every bit of the show). (Deep voice) Now available on DVD.
He also talks about church music - about how the black church in America, born out of slavery, oppression, and misery, gave rise to the most upbeat religious music in Christendom - and the white churches, with enough money and power to make Solomon blush, have songs like "Ohhhhh Godddd Whaattt Isssss Myyyyyy Hairrr Do Alllll Abouuuuut".

I took the Beliefnet test and came out as a "Neo-Pagan"....I dunno what that is, but second on the list was Unitarian....anyway, I'm not sure about my beliefs yet and would feel uncomfortable going to ANY church or organized religion for now.....still.....yet....

As Protagoras said, "Man is the measure of all things." Or, roughly translated into a more modern expression, "I am my own god."
So my choice is self-religion.

You'll be your own god? So...that's Mormonism, right?
