Hi Mulan,
Like you, I remember when the WT made such an issue out of women watching soaps. It was a sign of spiritual weakness to tune into such "trash".
My first introduction to the soap world was when I was probably five years old. I wasn't in school yet, and I remember that every day around noon, my mom would take us kids next door to watch the four 15 min. soaps. We didn't have a TV in those days. She was really hooked, but wasn't a JW then. She was also hooked on those Love Story magazines. When the JW's knocked at our door, when I was thirteen, life changed very radically.
I thought the whole "quick" story line about Ridge's "death" was just over the top..and then when Nick's only help to console Brooke, was through sex, well that was rediculous. Are we really supposed to buy the fact that Brooke was so grief stricken that sex with another man was going to help her get over the love of her life?. Ridge is not that great of an actor, really. But he and Brooke do have this chemistry going for them. They just never seem to ever have a normal relationship in this soap, and after so many years, and kids later, it doesn't appear that this "marriage" is going to run smoothe either. Sometimes, I could just kick Brooke in the butt. And now she's pregnant yet again!!
Also, to bring back Macy in the far-fetched story line of a couple years ago, only to have her "die" again, so she can move onto another soap. Rather silly. But I know these stories are just that. Silly imitations of "reel" life. I have fun fussing at them every evening. Even my husband knows all the ends and outs and we discuss it sometimes. He says I should write for the show, as I seem to know the characters and plots so well.
