Hate to be anal (who am I kidding... I love it ) but I think that Gopher is mixing up two scriptures.

1 Cor 5:11: But now I am writing you to quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man.

2 Jo 10,11: But now I am writing you to quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man.

Of course, the WT's application of both scriptures essentially ignores the ones that Blondie pointed out.

    Else,

It's a deeply ingrained JW "thang" not to eat with DF'd or DA'd ex-JWs. JWs don't think deeply about these things. It's an automatic gut reaction from their brainwashing.

A couple of nights ago I was visiting my dad, and my JW 144k mom was just about done with dinner. Dad invited me to eat, which he does for any of his kids visiting around supper time, and being a single guy I don't pass-go on home-cooked meals. What is a JW to do? Mom served me and dad and waited for me to finish eating. I figured she would do this so I ate quickly, and as soon as I finished she sat down and ate. She ate while I was still sitting at the table, and although she strained it pretty hard, technically she met the letter of the JW Law. Good 'ol mom. Living on the JW edge there. ROFL.

I think your boss has a lot more reason to be uncomfortable than you, he could be skirting on religious prejudice here. Probably not as things stand now, but document everything that happens which could possible impact your job. Hopefully, you may never need to use the info, but if it should come up you will have your south end covered.

Meanwhile, enjoy the meals with folks who are not quite so uppity. Bug

Cover yer ass. This guy is uncomfortable with you so he may instigate Theo-War and try to get you canned. Document everything...keep notes, records. Be paranoid because if he's a good little dubbie, he won't be happy 'till the bad ol' 'postate is gone!

Oh yeah, and make friends with his boss.

Hmmm... first of all, I'm not a "brother". Second, what makes him think I am doing any of those things listed? By avoiding me he is effectively accusing me of one or more of those acts, which is technically slander.

The company that I work for is very large and has all sorts of anti-discrimination policies in place... and they seem very serious about it. I'll just wait and see where this goes. What others have said is correct, he is the one with the rules, not me. (Ever noticed how JWs get upset at xJWs because they are no longer burdened by the many rules?) I'll also continue in a professional manner... aside from our brief "agreement" no one here has even mentioned religion. This is really a good working environment. It's calm, friendly and I have not met any abrasive or annoying personalities. My supervisor does not micro-manage at all and I'm given plenty of freedom and elbow room. Basically I'm given an assignment and when I'm done I turn it in... no one is ever breathing down my neck. The work hours are great too... basically they are not set so I can come and go as I please... all they want is for me to finish my assignments in a timely manner and be available for any meetings.

One thing that I find a bit ironic and humorous is the JW ban on beards. Basically they are restricted because they don't want the JWs to have a "sloppy" or "unkept" appearance. When I interviewed I had my beard that is very prominent... but well trimmed. The JW who interviewed me obviously did not see my beard as "sloppy" or "unkempt", I did get the job after all.

Elsewere... I would be very carefull around this guy. The first opporunity he gets he will can your ass, just to get you out of the way. To protect yourself (don't know your situation) I would go to the area Manager and have a little talk w/ him about you being an ex, there view of ex's. just so that if something came up later on the manager will have a level head on matters.

Elsewhere, that's why shunning is wrong. You don't proclaim yourself to be a JW and then flaunt unscriptural behaviour in people's face. Maybe you are not even doing anything unscriptural right now at all. The scripture that talks about df'd refers to a man who was purporting to be a "christian" and was living with another woman (his mother-in-law??).

Many xjw's are living their lives in such a way that according to jw's .... they should not be shunned: they are not fornicating, not drunkards or idolaters.......
