I'd be curious to see what they wrote about me back then.

    Thanks for the info.

The way things are going, I doubt that they will carry all that around with them all the time. Well, they could always promote a couple of MS to help with the load. The big briefcases will make 'em feel important I'm sure...

I can't cite the correct letter to elders but if you ask the C.O., such records

are supposed to be kept at the hall, not at an elders' house.

They have had problems with nosy wives and kids reading the stuff.

I'm in the uk so that means I have legal access to every bit of information that the hold on me under the data protection act, and I will be applying to them to send it all to me.........

Most of the Kingdom Halls I attended, the records were kept in a filing cabinet that was locked. This was usually located in the office where the elders held their judicial meetings. These files were not to be taken home by the elders. But I'm sure this rule was ignored by some.

There is probably no way that a person can have access to these records. These would be considered "confidential" documents of the congregation.

Per instructions from Bethel CIA (AKA Service Dept.) all records and letters are to be kept locked at the KH. Confidential records, committee cases are to be kept under lock as well. Elders are not supposed to have them in their homes. Elders serving on committees are to turn in their notes on the case at the end of each meeting to the committee chairman. Once the case is concluded all extraneous notes are to be destroyed. Only exception is publisher cards, which may be kept by the Secretary.

Someday someone will get the US Branch for all the clandestine files they keep. The Brits have it right with the Data Protection Act.

    Hi everyone,

I'm in Australia and currently in the process of trying to get my records. I've spoken with the Privacy Commission a number of times and it seems I do have a case as they have now taken over. They will be contacting Bethel and the congregation to enquire on my behalf. If anyone else in Oz is trying to get hold of their records I can provide you the contact information and my approach to the situation. Email me at [email protected]

We should break in to Bethel and steal our JC files. Does anybody know where in Brooklyn they keep those files?

    Czar,

I hear it's in a bathroom at the end of a long dark hall some where in Brooklyn Heights.

czaro, when I was there (early 70s), those files were in an unlocked file-card cabinet in the Service Dept. Pretty minimal info, though...just the publisher name, congregation, and reason for DFing.

The Bethel CIA (AKA Service Dept.) has moved to fancier digs at Patterson. Files, upon files, upon files. They have stuff going back forever on lots of people. Especially if they have it in for someone. I understand now that if someone writes in, the document is immediately scanned and any thing else written by the same person is immediately available for recall and review. Haven't seen this in action myself, just read a branch report from someone about it. Big Mother is watching.
