My Mum was forced to marry a man she didn't love and leave the village in Cyprus she grew up in to move to the UK in 1963. For nearly 5 years they lived in a flat above a restaurant until, in 1968 and with 3 small children, they managed to buy their first tiny terraced home in the Midlands. Dad was a compulsive gambler, he drank and he was lazy [though to his credit he has changed his ways and is now a very proud family man]. Mum was young, alone, unhappy and a little naive.
She started studying with the Witnesses that same year and lapped up these types of promises that the Society was making. She had found a group of 'friends' who showed her that 'everything would be alright', and what mother wouldn't want the world to be a better place for her children?
They have done more damage to my Mum than anyone or anything else ever has. Bastards!

Yes - read that article when I was a young person - now arthritis, back-painand constant sickness make me wonder - is it all a dream - or am I looking in the wrong mirror as I see all the wrinkles and blemishes - was the article only written for Dorian Grey? Seriously - someone should shove that down the throat of the current GB and ask them how many more lives such lies have damaged.
HMM! Pardon me??? Yes I read that in 69....Here I sit wrinkled ? racked up in pain! dead kids, dead hubby, the only animals around me- is the dog up the street who goes for me every time he can!!!! I was a young person in 1969--4 years out of high school, "temporary pioneering" and working part time trying to figure out what I was going to do with the rest of my life.
I do have to say though that this year, 2003, has given me a new lease on life because of someone special from my young teen years; my health has improved and I look forward to an interesting future if everything turns out like I hope it does.

I'm not sure what they mean by "fullfill any career," but if the young person was 18 in 1969, he/she would be 54 today. I suspect 54 is getting very close to fullfillment of a career. Having passed 54 a long time ago I know the person has crossed the line between middle age and old, very few live to be 108
