Babylon the Great: A Prophetic Warning

Babylon the Great is not just a city—it is the system that governs the world economy. The evidence for this is compelling, both in scripture and history. Ancient Babylon was the birthplace of banking, creating the first system of written records of financial transactions, loans with interest, and trade contracts. Today's global financial system mirrors this ancient structure, but on a worldwide scale.

Scripture reveals this economic identity of Babylon through multiple prophecies:

"The merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury" (Revelation 18:3). These merchants represent more than common traders—they are the powerful commercial interests that dominate global trade and finance.

When Babylon falls, these same merchants "weep and mourn because no one buys their merchandise anymore" (Revelation 18:11). Their extensive trade list includes "gold, silver, precious stones... and bodies and souls of men" (Revelation 18:12-13), showing a system that commodifies everything, even human life itself.

This matches today's world economy, where:

    • Global financial markets control nations' destinies
    • International trade agreements bind countries together
    • Central banks and monetary policies dictate economic conditions
    • Digital commerce connects all peoples in a single marketplace

"The kings of the earth have committed fornication with her" (Revelation 17:2), depicting how political leaders are compromised through economic relationships and dependencies. This perfectly describes our modern world, where nations are entangled in complex webs of debt, trade agreements, and financial obligations.

But Babylon is doomed, and its economic foundation is crumbling before our eyes.

911: The First Blow Against Babylon - Prophecy Fulfilled

"And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, fell from heaven upon men" (Revelation 16:21). This prophecy found its terrifying fulfillment in the devastating rain of debris from the Twin Towers—literal hundred-pound pieces falling from the sky onto the streets of New York's financial district.

"The merchants of the sea will stand far off, watching the smoke of her burning. They will cry out: 'Was there ever a city like this great city?' They threw dust on their heads, and cried out, weeping and wailing..." (Revelation 18:17-19). This scene played out exactly as prophesied:

    • Observers watched from boats in New York Harbor
    • People stood "afar off" across the water in New Jersey
    • They witnessed the smoke rising exactly as Scripture foretold
    • Financial merchants (Wall Street) could only watch from a distance as their center of trade burned

The economic impact was immediate and devastating:

    • The stock market lost $1.47 trillion in value in the first week
    • The insurance industry paid out $40 billion, crippling financial institutions
    • The airline industry collapsed, leading to mass layoffs and disruptions
    • New York lost 143,000 jobs per month, devastating local economies
    • The war in Afghanistan drained $2.313 trillion, bleeding Babylon's resources dry

This was God's first judgment against economic Babylon, but it would not be His last.

The Three Parts of Babylon's Economy

"And the great city was split into three parts" (Revelation 16:19):

    1. Finance & Banking (1)
    • First struck by 9/11
    • Shattered by 2008 crisis
    • Crushed by national debts
    • Threatened by digital currencies
    1. Corporate Industry (2)
    • Supply chains broken by COVID-19
    • Trade wars disrupt manufacturing
    • International alliances fracturing
    1. Technology Systems (3)
    • Digital dependency exposed
    • Control systems revealed
    • Cyber vulnerabilities increasing

    God's Systematic Judgments Continue

2008: The Foundation Crumbles "For in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!" (Revelation 18:17)

    • Like ancient Babylon's walls being breached, the financial system's defenses failed
    • Major banks fell like dominoes: Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch
    • God exposed the corruption of mortgage-backed securities and predatory lending
    • The world witnessed how quickly "secure" wealth can vanish

    God's Judgments Intensify

COVID-19: Global Trade Paralyzed "In one hour she has been laid waste" (Revelation 18:19)

    • God demonstrated His power to shut down global commerce overnight
    • Supply chains shattered, exposing the fragility of international trade
    • Digital dependency revealed as both strength and fatal weakness
    • Babylon's control systems (financial/social) became visible to all
    • Unprecedented money printing setting stage for economic disaster

Current Phase: Internal Destruction Begins "The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin" (Revelation 17:16)

    • Trade wars and sanctions weakening international commerce
    • Nations moving away from dollar dependency
    • Digital currencies threatening traditional banking
    • Political powers turning against the system they once supported
    • God putting it in their hearts to fulfill His purpose (Revelation 17:17)

Babylon's Final Collapse: What to Watch For

"For in one hour your judgment has come" (Revelation 18:10)

    Signs Already Visible:

    • Nations creating alternative banking systems outside U.S. control
    • Digital currencies challenging traditional financial structures
    • Trade alliances fracturing under political pressure
    • Growing instability in global markets

The United States: God's Instrument of Judgment

"For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose" (Revelation 17:17)

As the beast power, the United States will unknowingly fulfill God's will:

    • U.S. economic policies triggering worldwide chain reactions
    • American decisions causing international financial upheaval
    • Government actions destabilizing global trade systems
    • Each move accelerating Babylon's collapse
    • One nation's actions cascading into worldwide economic failure

    Preparing for Babylon's Fall

Spiritual Preparation: "Come out of her, my people, that you may not participate in her sins and that you may not receive of her plagues" (Revelation 18:4)

    • Detach from materialistic values
    • Build faith through Bible study and prayer
    • Strengthen your relationship with God
    • Create spiritual support networks

    Practical Steps:

    • Reduce dependency on digital banking
    • Build emergency supplies and resources
    • Develop practical skills
    • Create local community connections
    • Be wise but not fearful

The Final Events and Christ's Return

"After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, 'Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God'" (Revelation 19:1)

    When Babylon Falls:

    • Economic systems collapse completely
    • World powers realize their helplessness
    • Human solutions fail utterly
    • God's supreme power becomes evident to all

    The Ultimate Hope:

    • Christ returns to establish His kingdom
    • True economic justice replaces corruption
    • God's government supersedes human systems
    • His people vindicated and rewarded

If someone today wrote an apocalyptic story featuring a nation symbolized by a woman dressed in a flowing red, white and blue robe with a stars and stripes motif; a sword in her right hand and a bald eagle on her left, everyone would instantly recognize Columbia and the nation she represents.

--Never going to understand why the same common sense does not apply to Revelation or why anyone would assume that they and not the target audience are the target audience.

Well, I don't know about all that...but when I originally studied with Witnesses, it was strongly emphasized that Babylon the Great was the World Empire of False Religion, and was intertwined with the other parts of Satan's world, The Commercial/Financial/Business System, and the Political system, and if we had any ties to or involvement in them whatsoever, when their End came, ours would too! I hardly think that the Watchtower leadership has ever lived up to this belief.

These events have occurred, which have been profound and significant, in ways where we can recognize them as prophetic. God judges and attacks Babylon, correct? He has one final blow, which will cause it's ruin. God takes action during the end times. Pray for His Kingdom to arrive.

As far as the JW organization, their belief that Babylon represents false religion is unfounded. No other entity or group has rulership over the entire kings of the earth. The entire world relies on the economy to stay afloat.

Babylon the Great = every false religion on planet earth? Doubt it!

Revelation 17:5 - “Babylon the Great, the mother of the prostitutes."

Anyone who can read/understand English must see that only the most prominent "entity" is being described, not lesser/inferior ones. Therefore, it is not referring to a global enterprise. (whether religious, political, or financial)

p.s. AFAIK, the judgement starts first with the house of God, (Christianity) not BTG. (1 Peter 4:17)

United States: God's Instrument of Judgment

....and I was wondering how long it would be before Mr Trump or America would figure in this cultish stuff.

    US defaultism again.

When will they realise that there are other countries, with different cultures? We're not all in an American bubble, you know.

Perhaps take up a geography class, or travel to other countries to stay and learn that the world is not America-centric.

Hey, if America was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for us!

...anyway: people have been making these sorts of predictions for centuries. There are endless Bible verses that can be interpreted to match the world's circumstances, and lots of visions and dreams filled with symbolism that is just begging to be applied to whatever we want.

What surprises me the most is that the people making these predictions are very much aware that others have been doing the same thing and failing every single time. But they are confident that they are the exception and that they will get it right. In some cases, like the WTS and people like Harold Camping, they keep making predictions even after they got it wrong!

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

    The goddess Dea Roma.

Just like Columbia, Helvetia, and many more represent countries today, a goddess sitting on seven hills was a stock symbol of Rome in the first century which everybody would instantly recognize
