As the saying goes, "there are none so blind as those who will not see."
I was a convert to the JW faith. I WANTED it to be "the truth." I really wanted to be known and loved by the Highest Personage in the universe. Who wouldn't want that? So I did all the things that you are supposed to do, I trained my mind to think that way, to have a good conscience and to be a healthy associate to those inside as well as outside. For many years.
By the time I began to understand what had happened, my life had totally changed its' course for the worse. Oh, sure, the moral guidelines are great and I'm still a strong believer in things like honesty, fidelity, love over hate, and helping others. But the religion is a racket and a snare. Jehovah can know all about me without the corruption of some other person's being in charge of my life.
My advice is that you ease yourself away from these nutjobs.

I like how the OP starts with the premise of JWs being "they, their, them", but occasionally slips up with a "we". Obvious troll is obvious. The OP will fit in well with JWs, a group that is all about appearances at the cost of actual truth.

When the JWs predicted that Scare-Mageddon would arrive in October of 1914 was it "The Truth" then?
What about when they predicted it would arrive in April of 1918? Was is the "The Truth" then?
When they said it would arrive in 1925, was it "The Truth" then?
When the September 15, 1941 Watchtower magazine page 288 mentioned that we are months away from Scare-Mageddon, was it "The Truth" then?
When the Awake magazine May 22, 1969 page 15 warned young Jehovah's Witnesses that they should not pursue a college education because they will NEVER grow old in this system, was it "The Truth" then? (By the way, young JWs in 1969 are now in their 60's)
In the late 1960's and early 1970's, when Whacky Freddy (look it up) starting ranting about Autumn of 1975 being a probable date, was it "The Truth" then?
What about when the Watchtower October 15, 1980 page 31, the book The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah page 216, the Watchtower March 1, 1984 pages 18-19 and the Watchtower January 1, 1989 page 12 all stated that Scare-Mageddon would arrive before the year 2000? Was it "The Truth" then?
When Splaining Splane explained, in 2010, that ONE GENERATION is actually TWO GENERATIONS that "overlap", was it "The Truth" then?
What about today (November 17, 2016)? Is it finally "The Truth" today?
If and when the JWs finally have "The Truth", please do come back here and let us all know.

That's a great question Believer, do JWs really have the truth? I recommend you research information outside of the JWs to truly decide for yourself. You would not buy a car from an auto dealer unless you did all the research both good and bad. Why would you take the JWs info at face value in choosing a faith? I recommend a book called "Combatting Cult Mind Control" by Steven Hassan. He never was a JW, so not to worry he is not apostate. However, this book helps people identify what a cult is, and then you will have the tools you need to decide if the JWs stack up to all their own hype or if they really are a cult as millions of people claim.
There is a wealth of information that can help you gain a stronger grasp on JWs that you cannot find from them. Again, its kind of like shopping for a car in that no car dealership is going to tell you how bad their vehicles are, how many times they have been recalled, or how many people have died due to faulty vehicle manufacturing.
Also, it is easy to poo-poo others concerns over the JWs because JWs routinely train their members in the art of something called "overcoming objections" where common objections are dismissed with a common answer. While it can be an effective marketing tool, it does little to address real problems that people experience with the org. It's kind of like if you asked a car salesman about the recalls on the vehicle he is selling and instead of addressing the question honestly, he/she tells you their company is the only car company produced worldwide and with a certain saftey accolade.
In response to your reply to me about JWs being the only ones globally preaching, again you are mistaken. That would be the Catholics who are in more countries than you know. And, the preaching work wasn't the command that Christ gave to his followers. He expressed his command very clearly by saying "This is my command: Love one another" in the book of John Chapter 15. Read the whole chapter, not just one verse as the JWs do.

A believer, you wrote "I have been for the last couple weeks been studying religion". Does that mean you've been studying with JWs for only a few weeks? or that you have been, as a JW, studying religion in general for a number of weeks?

Sorry to disillusion you...but the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses is not biblical. Every doctrine that is unique to Witnesses is extra-biblical, based on speculation/interpretive abuse.
For example:
Where does the Bible teach that the apostles went to heaven in the spring of 1918; that all churches were rejected by Jesus Christ in the fall of 1918; that Jesus chose certain nameless Bible Students in Brooklyn to run the show for His kingdom in 1919.
The foundation of WTS religion is grounded in self-authenticating mythology, not scripture.

JWs are not the only "Christian" group that goes door-to-door.
While that may be true, it doesn't matter. Fortunately the National Weather Service no longer relies on giving flood or tornado warnings D2D or 1000s more would be dead. D2D is irrelevant today. We have radio, TV, the internet. Joyce Meyers contacts the "listening ear" of more people on any Sunday than does any JW (or Mormon) Cong in a year of D2D. [Not supporting Joyce Meyers here, just making a point.] If doing things the old, antiquated way is what counts, the Amish must be God's Chosen. . . . Doc [fed up with stupid-ass reasoning]
