I remember back in the early 80s when U2 was popular with the youth...I was an elder then. It was time for our quarterly elders' meeting and the C. O. was about to make his visit. There was an exemplary brother who the body was interested in making a ministerial servant. The drawback was that this brother was a fan of U2. Needless to say...due to his 'bad' choice in music his appointment was held back for a year or two before he became an M.S.

Anything that sounded like rock n roll. I was told by a elder that only country music was acceptable. Then another one said only classical music was OK. So I listen to Emerson Lake and Palmer and one of Deep Purple records. They mixed classical and rock n roll together. I guess of could have listen to ELO also with their song Roll over Beethoven. Lol. My dad would tell me only kingdom music was good to listen to. So I listen to all the rock music. Still Totally ADD

but back in the day--it was OK to listen to the Shadows because 2 of the group were dubs --at one stage.

I never let any of that stupidity dictate my music choices...altho as a kid had to keep the radio really low when my mother was around...back in the 60's....those damn shirelles....

Someone in a previous congregation told me that Crystal Blue Persuasion was written about The Truth (That Leads to Eternal Life) book. I never did find out if that reference was true or not.
But back to the topic, if we dared to listen to anything but kingdom melodies, then classical music was always ok. Anything that mentioned evil, devil, demons was obviously bad, but so were things that mentioned God / Jesus, because they all had all stemmed from wrong teachings.

I know that Michael Jackson was banned because of his religious status. Obviously, Led Zeppelin was made into a big deal because Jimmy Page is a Satanist. This band also has the second biggest selling record, excluding greatest hits collections (Thriller is the only non-greatest-hits album that sold more than Led Zeppelin IV). It is also far better than today's lame excuse of "music" that is too sanitized.
Other groups that one might see banned (and are also great musicians) include Pink Floyd (The Dark Side of the Moon is one of the longest running records on the top album charts, beating out even Led Zeppelin IV and Thriller for most consecutive weeks in the top 200 albums), Billy Idol (and I do recommend his music), and David Bowie (another one I highly recommend). For R&B fans, Stevie Wonder's albums from 1972 through 1976 are well worth listening to--all four of them. (And quite likely, the washtowel finds them "bad".)
