    The Ride!

About 2 weeks ago I went on a one day motorcycle ride with about 50-60 other jw’s. (At least most of them claimed to be dubs) It’s an event that 2 jw fleshly brothers put on every year. It was a very enjoyable day and the best thing is that even though the group was comprised of “elders”, “ms’s”, pioneers, and born-in dubs, there was not even a mention of jw stuff all day long. We all came together on that beautiful Saturday morning not because we loved jehober or “his organization” but rather because of our love for motorcycles and riding. Many of the riders knew each other but there were a bunch of those who just showed up because we heard about it and it was open to all jw’s.

We stopped at mid-day to enjoy some beers and Mexican food and finished up the day at one of the host’s home for a barbeque. The after-ride party was lively and no jw talk was heard. I know, it’s hard to believe that 60-70 jw’s got together and talked about something other than service, paradise, resurrection, and Armageddon but it happened that day. Everyone let their hair down so to speak. Yes our love for motorcycles brought us together and it was real fun, not fake like spending all day at a RC listening to a bunch of kiss asses droning on about how happy jw’s are.

Did you ever have a day like that?

    just saying!

No, it sounds fake, and in no way am i saying that it really is fake. What i mean is, i never heard of, or experienced anything like that with 50 to 60 Jws.

Maybe, because they are motorcycle riders, they are more open minded, flexible, and human, than the average JW. I know that when i was "in" many years ago, brothers riding motorcycles was actually frowned upon, and while they wouldnt outright say it, it was used against you. Even privileges were held back in some circumstances, because of it.

So, maybe motorcycle riding JW's are already open minded, more so, freer thinkers, and not so "in the box", making them more level headed.

In my old congregation, there would have never been an elder, who was a motorcycle rider, maybe MS's, but not elders.

I have personal knowledge of this, intimately. My father IS an avid motorcycle rider. He owns a Harley sportster, AND a Valkyrie, and he is indeed considered a "rebel" in JW land, trust me.

Maybe the group should get together and form a club like hells angels.

Here in the UK we have JW bikers including Elders and MS's. However, I only know a handful, few and far between.

As for a day out, stopping "to enjoy beers" is not a good idea when you're riding/driving and soon leads to a lost licence here.

Owning a Harley is not considered "rebellious" however. Just bad taste!! (See John McGuiness's comments on Harleys)

To ride a motorcycle , you have to have good balance where do you find that many JWs with that within a 100 km/60 mile radius?

As close as I ever got to an experience like that was working on the quick-build Kingdom Halls. The focus was getting it done. Lots of joking and comraderie. Now you have to qualify and I don't. But that's OK.

Not hell's angles, They could have vests that say Jehovhas Ex's its not us its him. on the back. Maybe things are not so happy in Jehovah land. The world is no closer to the end visibly then it was in Russelle's day. Many stay in or are a part as the OP seems to be out of keeping the social network alive, not because they are dyed in the wool kool aid drinkers.

    Hades Angels.

(The Common Grave of Mankind's Angels doesn't have quite the same ring to it.)

of course not. even at the hall, before or after the meetings, there is no discussion of jw stuff. If you ever would bring up the subject: you'd be considered a trouble maker.

The only jw stuff discussed before the meetings by some, is the practise session for the insane demonstrations, or after the meeting in the back room, the "not inheriting the kingdom" themes.

" I know, it’s hard to believe that 60-70 jw’s got together and talked about something other than service, paradise, resurrection, and Armageddon but it happened that day.."

Not hard to believe at all... it's what happens when JW friends converse just after the final "amen" at the Sunday meeting... it's usually about the afternoon football game they're about to watch, their vacation plans, comparing restaurant notes, or exchanges of recipes by the ladies, etc., etc., etc.....

IN SHORT: anything but discussing what they just sat through for for the past two hours.
