My old man still manages to preach it. He has a 'convenient' memory, a bit like turning off his hearing aid.

What a lack of faith! Don't you know that prophecy is only understood after its fulfillment? The King of the North could be right under our noses, and we simply haven't realized it yet.

That is so true, Euph. The WTS admits that prophecy is better understood "after" it has been fulfilled.

Prophecy can not be understood until it has been fulfilled or is in the course of fulfillment. From 1874 to 1914 the prophecy concerning the Lord's coming was being fulfilled and could be understood, and was understood, by those who were faithful to the Lord and who were watching the development of events, but not by others. (Creation; 1927; p. 290)

Just as the apostles understood many prophecies concerning the Messiah only after Jesus? death and resurrection, Christians today understand Bible prophecy in its finest detail only after it has been fulfilled. (Luke 24:15, 27; Acts 1:15-21; 4:26, 27) (WT 3/15/00 p. 13)

Seems the WT is remaining mute (for a change) on the King of the North thing.

Locals speculate all over the place - usually the deep thinkers wannabe's. After 9/11 - a jw sister I know told me "I can't WAIT to see how the Society interprets this attack in relation to the new King of the North!"

As I stuttered in disbelief, I realized - ain't no sense in talking to that one. Truly braindead.

I asked a Witness relative the question "who is the King of the North" about six months ago. After a couple of weeks he came back to me with the answer "we do not know who the King of the North is at the moment", and gave me the 'Daniel's Prophecy' book. Wouldn't God's true earthly organisation know?

I think this creates a huge problem for the Watchtower society. The WTS equates Daniel 11:44,45 and the destruction of the King of the North with Armageddon. To quote from page 285 of the 'Daniel's Prophecy' book 'In fact, at the battle of Armageddon, all earthly kings are to be removed by God's Kingdom, and this evidently is what happens to the king of the north.'

Page 284 of the same book says that the 'king of the north' in Daniel 11:44-45 has 'yet to rise'. So the Watchtower society is saying that until a new 'King of the North' appears then Armageddon can't happen. And we all know how the WTS hates anything that lessens the urgency of how near the end is. I think they are going to have to pick a new 'king of the north' soon, and my two best guesses would be China or Islam, with China as favourite.

    We'll see.

I take your point, CF, and you make a strong case for the likelihood of a new king arising as "new light" pretty soon. I can't see it being China 'cos the WTS has too much to lose from a reaction from the Chinese government. They have to tread very warily right now.

Much better to blame identify Islam!

    Cheers, Ozzie

    Good point Ozzie,

I'd forgotten that the WTS now tries not to offend governments and government agencies as was done in previous decades. I've found another quote on page 281 of the 'Daniel' book - 'Will the development of nuclear weapons by additional nations result in a new arms race and have a bearing on the identity of that king?'.

So how about the 'Axis of Evil' terrorist states including North Korea?? After all, the war on terror has replaced the cold-war. Whoever the WTS chooses though, I think it will have to be soon.

I think the next time the society trys to put that label on someone........we ALL should bobmbard that someone with the societys quotes about them. The United Nations woke up a bit to understand how the witnesses were stabbing them in the back..........behind their back. I say the next time the society talks shit on someone new.............we should let them know.

Frankly I'm surprised there was not more repercussions from the UN against the society when many pointed out to the UN just WHAT the society was saying about them. They should have locked up the old pathetic bastards and thrown away the key, and let them wipe their arses in prison with the watchtower magazines they printed against the UN!

    What is sedition anyway?

I like your quotes about prophecy not being understood until after it has been fulfilled. I recall reading that statement in the Revelation Climax book and thinking that it was perhaps the stupidest sentence ever written by the Society.

The dictionary defines prophesy as: ?To predict the future with certainty as if by divine inspiration.? If a prophesy cannot be understood until after it is fulfilled, then it is missing the elements of prediction, certainty, and future. Therefore, by definition, it is not a prophesy.
