It's snowing here.................1st time in 2 years

  I woke up to snow this morning. We have had another major rain storm, with flooding and all the "benefits" of that, yesterday and all night. When I got up a little while ago, I saw the ground covered with snow, and it is still coming down. It is only November 19...............we rarely have snow this early, and last year we had NONE ...................usually we get one or two snowstorms and the snow lasts a couple of days, and it is January or February.

  This sure messes up my plans for the day.

  So do you think that means you're going to have a hard winter? Snow before Thanksgiving does seem a little early. (Of course, our first snow is usually in late January, so what do I know!)

  Yes, Nina, that is what it usually means. The last time we had snow this early, we had a miserable winter, with lots of snow and cold cold cold days. That was in 1978!!

  Well, if it gets too cold, hop on a plane and come to Dallas for a visit! Our winters are usually pretty nice, with only the occasional snow/ice day to give us a day off work and school. I guess that sort of makes up for the 100-degree days we get throughout the summer.

  Can you believe there's many (most?) children in these parts who've never seen snow?!!

  Mom is now in a rehab center, for about 4 weeks of physical therapy to see if she can get well enough to come home. They don't think she will be able to, though, because they think she will need 24 hour care, from experts. We have checked out a really nice assisted living place, that she can go to, and Medicare pays for it in full. She has to recover quite a bit to qualify to go there though. Her only other option will be a group home, and she will hate that. Thanks for asking Nina and Ozzie.

  Dave was just saying how Florida would be good right now. Dallas too. Our winters are usually so mild, that this is a shock!

  Thanks for your pm...Glad to hear your mom is doing a little better....What would she do without an amazing daughter like you...You are so supportive...About your snow, well at least you are not bailing it....I much rather have snow on the ground, then trying to empty it from the inside of your house.....Get your grandchildren wrapped up and take them outside to build a snowman....If you donot get snow out there so often, they will love it....Some Canadian advice on buiding snowman, the carrots are for the nose.....lol.....So glad to hear your mom is doing a little better....

  We had snow here last week, in PA. Means a hard winter if it showed up before Thanksgiving, as cruzanheart said.

  It's pouring down rain today, which means when it gets a little colder, its going to be snowing like a giant dandelion.

  Here in the Adirondacks we usually have snow on the ground by Halloween, but not this year. However we did get clobbered with our first snowstorm last Thursday...about 18". Right now it's raining, so most of the snow is gone. Last January it never got above 0 and for a couple of weeks the temp was around -29 in the morning and would warm up to about -19 by early afternoon. When it finally did get up to 0, a lot of us were walking around with jackets wide open and commenting on how warm it was. Around here we have 9 months of winter and 3 months of very poor sledding...

  My grandma used to live in the Adirondacks, and she'd always call when she got her first two feet of snow. usually around November 1st.
