Whether it be sports athletes or Hollywood heavyweights or talk show hosts—do these people influence your thinking?

A bit, what ever they are selling I try to boycott. Its not always possible but I would never buy a Nike product, or vote Democrat. It works out the best for the most part.

It’s just insulting that they think because of the prominence that they actually can sway people. They are no better than anyone else yet they sit high on a pedestal looking down upon everyone that disagrees with

There prominence opens the doors for them to the media.

Do you recall when Teresa Graves (Get Christy Love!) used her celebrity status to bring attention to the persecution of JWs by the government of Malawi?

Likely, if you share the same ideas as a celebrity who gets on the air about a social or political subject, then you might be swayed. If you strongly differ, it's doubtful they will influence you.

Here is a group of celebrities that influence millions for the good or the bad depending on their personal preference. As for me, I have no use for the lot of them and would not base my personal decisions on anything they say. I am not interested in any political or product endorsement that so called celebrities care to pontificate on and am not influenced one way or another.

They influence us by being in the public attention and media so we get to hear and evaluate what they say and think more so than people who are not in the public's eye.

After all celebrities are just real people of varying characters and personalities, they may be smart and educated with sound wholesome empathic social values or they may be just the opposite like a celebrity character such as Charles Manson.

There are some celebrities whom I admire, for instance, Joe Frazier.

I admire his work ethic and his determination to get ahead and be the best at what he was good at (which happened to be beating up other guys with boxing gloves on).

Now, I can't obviously be a boxing champion but I can work hard at other things, like getting a job, doing post-grad education, whatever.

So, in that sense, I hope someone like Joe Frazier influences me for the better.

But if your OP refers to the political opinions and social activism of Hollywood, athletes and rock stars then forget it.

All that is a big joke to me ... I read that kinda crap for the laughs.

Whatever they are supporting I oppose, whatever they are opposing I support, at least that's my starting point. The sheer gall of uninformed morons whose claim to fame is looking good or possessing some entertaining talent believing their pathetic opinion should impact society offends me deeply.
