if he start a conversatioon about religion just tell him, "I am not interested in any religious concept. I had a bad experience with a witness in the past but no longer care to bring up any dealing with any religion. We all have our beliefs that is what causes war. Then say that is all I have to say about religion. I won't bring it up again. Thank you.

You might remind him of the subject of religious discrimination. He can not fire you for your beliefs, or lack thereof. So inform him that your work performance and your beliefs are not relatedd, and should not be brought into the picture. I would NOT do this -- I am a manager -- and managers get pisseed off when be told what they are legally allowed to do and what not to do -- it is like you are being condescending. I would just say -- I am sorry -there is a time and place for everything -and work is not the place to discuss religion. I am sorry - IMHO I would say that and leave it at that.
