I enjoy swing dancing because it's very creative as a social dance. You can learn a little or a lot, and enjoy it easily. My parents taught me a little bit about swing dancing when I was young. Just a few steps, but I loved it. It was enough for when I was in 6th grade and we had a 1950s week that I could help my teacher demonstrate a little bit. (It was one of those experimental classes, btw.) 2 years ago I went with my sister's family to a swing dance and picked up a little again. Then, nothing else since.
Last summer I was remembering how fun it was, and it hit me that I could learn thru video. But who would be my partner? My husband dislikes dancing--it is just because his school did not have a music program, and his sense of rhythm was not developed, so he always feels like a fool as he tries to move with the beat. Too self-conscious. He really, really doesn't want to do it. So who...?
My son fits the bill, turns out. And he really enjoys it. We've been having a good time 1-2 times a week learning new moves or practicing old ones. Just turning on a CD and cutting loose in the kitchen. He loves swing music, too! (I'm not much of an expert on it, really; just know a few tunes.)
Does anyone else here enjoy this kind of dance? Or another related dance? (I saw Frannie's thread recently--I love rock 'n roll, too, of course! I guess I'm referring to a coordinated type of dance..)
