Those 'difficult years' are sure to include Governmental issues the Watchtower will continue to face due to its hurtful and harmful policies.

These 'difficult years' will also include more intense whining from the Governing Body about the need for more money.

It's been said recently, and it seems reasonable; they are building towards saying they are in the 'great tribulation '. They might be waiting for some trigger event to use. It solves their 1914 problem yet keeps the heat on.

To me this a realization that the Great Tribulation is still ahead and the difficult years are to do with the famines pandemics and wars that are still to happen

Their great tribulation could well be when they go broke due to the CSA payouts or the loss of their charity status.....or both.

“Difficult years ahead” - Was it a slip of the tongue, a simple lifting of the phrase about apostles , or was he deliberately saying that the end is years away? . ?

Whatever, if you asked they would say “ We don’t know “ !

We have seen a downplaying of the “ brink of the end” statements lately. In my view they are settling into a more mainstream Christianity with less of the fire and brimstone ltalk

When the boomers and genX'ers are all gone this wretched religion will be totally unrecognisable from anything we remember.

The change is almost complete even now with in-person meeting attendance not mandatory, book study abandoned, field service reporting dropped, dress and grooming standards lowered, shunning softened and the list goes on.

The final changes will be doctrinal and it's only the oldies that even remotely care about that. When they're out of the way doctrines won't just be simplified, they'll become irrelevant.

Jehovah's Witnesses used to stand for something. Sad really.

Generation X,,, is the generation who may have begun the "wake up'' from the Borg.

In the mid to late 1990s.

The thing is, we probably should have seen these changes coming. Or, at least, that there would be enough changes to move them in a new direction. They've done it before, though in the past it was usually after the WTS president died and the new one stepped in, ready to mold it into his vision. I guess I expected that to stop after they formed the GB, but nothing is as constant as change.

We might be at an early stage of a revamp of the religion. So now I'm intrigued as to what other changes they might make. Maybe holidays and birthdays are not as far-fetched as I thought...

It reminds me of an old joke, the wife says to her husband: "Honey, I'm going out in two minutes. There's a roast in the pot, turn it every half hour!"
