True confession-- I once cooked a Thanksgiving meal in the wee hours of the morning and served a Thanksgiving breakfast for two other pioneer couples at 7 am so we could meet up for service at 9 that morning. Sheer lunacy!

The hardest part of having a big turkey dinner on Thursday was that you still had to go to the meeting that night. We could never just relax for the evening.

I'm just glad my dad at the time I was growing up was an UBM, so I grew up with the memories of Thanksgiving and Christmas with family and close friends of my parents and receiving presents. Remember the Borg told the wives if their husband was not a believer to still prepare the holiday meal for him, so most of the time we went to close friends or relatives and sometimes my Uber Dub mom even prepared the holiday meal

Romans chapter 14 and Colossians chapter 2 both state holidays are a conscience matter and Job says that his children celebrated their special day. So the facts are Watchtower made up a doctrine that’s not supported by the Bible and this also shows JWs in all their arrogance really don’t know their bible any better then the average Christian.

Really what good comes from them not celebrating a birthday? Is it just to be different??

I always struggled with the fact that I was told these things were wrong, but I could never see in practice the reason for their being wrong. Murder, stealing, yes, I can see those practices having bad results, but congratulating someone for making it another year in their limited time on the earth? I could never see anything negative about it.

When I was a child (of the 70s) I would hear this: "birthday parties bring too much honor to an individual". That made sense when I was 8 years old, but as my brain developed, I was like: "anniversaries honor two people", what the hell is the difference? Parental answer: "marriage is an arrangement of God" that's why we have anniversaries. And it was just stupid apologetics like this that aren't even in print that I would hear.

Most JWs know that there is actually nothing wrong with birthdays, thus the cognitive dissonance.
