Village Idiot - "...no matter how bad things are as you see them now, they're always worse when you look more closely..."

Bizarrely funny and soberingly true, at the same time.

Hi all, thanks so much for the welcome messages. Thought I'd clarify a few things; if I'm going to try and be part of this community I figure I may as well open up and be clear.

I appreciate the comment someone made about friends coming and going. I need to know that and accept it.

Regarding my husband: Yes, he tends to want me all to himself, but he has learned that he can't control me like that. I did lose friendships with male friends- he picked a fight with a particularly good friend, and that one hurt the most. But, he is the only person who's got my back no matter what. This man would do anything for me, and he is the only person who has been loyal to me through everything, and we've been through a lot. No marriage is perfect and we've both had to work on ourselves... and it's only gotten better.

Weird... only half of my message actually posted...

I have read Crisis of Conscience and was on another ex-jw forum a while back. I am fully aware that the Watchtower is a cult. But the doctrine and the fear must still be lurking in my subconscious because I often recall Bible verses as answers to problems, and once in a while I have the flashing thought that maybe they are right, at least about some things (then I remember how wrong they are about mostly everything). While I was reading Reasoning from the Scriptures by Ron Rhodes, I could hear in my head all of the rebuttals a witness would have to his arguments. Like, I never forgot it. I guess you never forget all of it... like riding a bike

As an aside, I think the "everyone who voted Trump is a racist" mantra is one of the reasons the Dems lost (besides offering up the turd-sandwich candidate). It needs to be killed or they will continue to lose.

I'm late to the party and hope I'm not high-jacking the thread, but I wanted to address this point.

Not everyone who voted for Trump is a racist, but everyone who voted for Trump decided racism wasn't a dealbreaker, and that's horrifying.

It may not be politically expedient to make that point, but it's reality. You can't look at Trump's actual statements and credibly argue his words and tone were not racist.

@NinaCee welcome to the forum. I discovered this place 10 years ago and it helped me finally slam the door shut on JWism. I visit this place a lot less frequently than I used to, but it's still therapeutic for me to browse topics from time to time.

I know exactly where you're coming from with your statements. One of the primary voids religion fills is a sociological one. It becomes one's tribe and it's very difficult to uproot ourselves from our tribe and make it on our own. That's why so many who leave the religion find themselves going back with their tails between their legs willing to undergo the humiliating process of being let back in.

It takes time, but you can slowly rebuild a community worth being a part of. It's been over a decade for me and I still miss the instant familial bond I could form with Witnesses anywhere. But I could no longer ignore the blatant logical deficiencies in the belief system and the knowledge that those bonds were conditional on my conforming to the dictates of a group of creepy old guys in NY I've never met.

I wish you success moving forward.

NinaCee » Nowadays I feel like an orphan. I feel awful for saying that because I do have a teenage son who is still close to me (for now), and my husband and his family are great even though they are tRump supporters (that is another subject altogether). But something is still missing. I don't even feel like I can have a personal connection with god because if Jehovah wants "his people" to behave the way they do, then I don't want to know or love Jehovah. In fact, I think he's a bit of an asshole. I'm sorry if that is offensive to some of you.

Don't assume the Jehovah's Witnesses are God's people. If so, when, and how did he choose them? It's not fair to judge God by the Society. I watched one of their videos about King Hezekiah and the Assyrians. The acting was so horrible that I was embarrassed for the actors. It was "Jehovah this" and "Jehovah that"...no one in those days would dare bandy the holy name like that -- it was pure fabrication having ancient characters talk like Jehovah's Witnesses seven hundred years B.C. Since no one in the Society has ever heard from God, it's all speculation on the part of the Governing Body as to whether they represent Him. So please don't judge God by how the JWs interpret Him.

    It makes Jehovah sad.

BTW, I was for Trump too. Woo-woo!

With all due respect, you're delusional. We voted for Trump because of the sanctity of the Constitution, and because of the gross evil of Mrs. Clinton. Obama never showed us a legitimate birth certificate. No one knows who he is, where he was born, where he went to school overseas. All his records were sealed and his father and mother were communists. But Hillary was the real real reason Trump was elected. She's creepy, corrupt, can't tell the truth and is involved with witchcraft and pedophilia (and you'll be getting more about this soon).

Racism had nothing to do with it. I was for Ben Carson and Herman Cain before I was for Trump.

The guy who believes the Garden of Eden was in Missouri thinks I'm delusional. That's rich.

Welcome! You are in good company here. Most of us aren't total nutjobs, and most of us who are nutjobs (to whatever degree) are damaged goods (thank you WATCHTOWER)

I am a little worried that you went from a controlling and restrictive religion to a spouse that is doing that with you. I hope I am reading things wrong, but when your spouse is running off your friends, thats concerning to me.
