...prerecorded cassettes normally didn't go over the 90min length...

Does the whole Watchtower and Awake get read on the cassettes? I'm not sure how long it would normally take to read a whole magazine - I kinda thought it would be longer than 90 minutes. I know that when you buy a book on cassette it's usually abridged (unless you get them from people who normally distribute to the blind).

The WT is read on 2 sides of one cassette. The Awake on another cassette, both sides. Originally, done for blind or sight-impaired JWs.

I wonder if there is a way of playing MP3's backwards to see if there is some hidden meaning in the articles ???

Probably the only way to get meaning out of it!

The elderly who have emotional attachments to the "shoebox" cassette players are going to be pretty screwed.

I can just imagine the fun we can have with dubbing, remixing, and swapping THOSE files. Watchtower covers, nothing, we can spice up the whole three article study on the New / Old / Mosaic / Medium Rare Covenants!!!!

If you play a Watchtower backwards, what kind of message do you get?

Also, isn't being blind bad enough without having to sit still and LISTEN to the magazine articles?

The 1914 generation doctrine is restored, then 1975 is proclaimed as the end times, then the "superior authorities" become Jehovah and Jesus again, then "Peace -- Can it Last" foretells the end of World War 2, then the organization changes its name to "Bible Students", then the Kingdom is proclaimed as having been established in 1914, then Russell pops back to life, then all the printing moves back to Pittsburgh, then Russell consults with CT Barbour about the end times, then the Watchtower closes up shop!!!

Yes, the KM comes in Braille. The WTS has many publications, including the NWT, in braille. Yes, there is an underline feature. There are quite a few innovations connected with computer technology as well. Not invented by the WTS but adapted to reach a captive audience. Contrary to conjecture, not all blind people are adept at Braille which is a series of raised dots that skilled and trained blind people read by running their fingers over. The Braille publications are larger than conventional WTS so it means some choices by blind JWs as to what they bring to the meeting. I was amazed at a software program that reads conventional print out loud. Some people who become blind as adults find it hard to adapt to the use of Braille documents and prefer tapes.

I get regular books on tape and play them on trips and commuting to work. Some are self-help, some mysteries, some sci-fi.
