Adam was a johnny-come-lately. Eden was really the city park of Catal Huyuk (c. 5000-4000 BC) and Cain's wife was the daughter of one of the local slum lords. -- Leolaia

How old is humanity? It all depends on how you define it.

Homo sapiens per se is at least 160,000 to 200,000 years old. Homo neanderthalensis is at least 300,000 to 400,000 years old. Archaic Homo sapiens goes back at least 800,000 years. The latter more or less becomes indistinguishable from Homo erectus (and the similar Homo ergaster), which goes back at least 2,000,000 years. Things get fuzzier earlier than roughly 1,000,000 years ago. Apparently a number of forms of hominids existed, such as several forms Australopithecus, which walked upright but had brain capacities 1/3 to 1/2 of today's people. Go back to roughly 6,000,000 years ago and the few hominid fossils bear close resemblance to the ancestors of chimpanzees. This very fuzziness is proof that mankind evolved over millions of years.

That sounds interesting. It's too bad they let fluff tour guide graham hancock spout off. I hope some real archeologists get in on this.
