When I was about 10 or 11 I wanted to play twister at a bbq my parents threw. As soon as we got started an elder suggested we play something more appropriate. I didn't understand until later why we couldn't play twister. My mom told why me a couple of years later. She said some elders have dirty minds.
Yes board games were approved of, we could even play trivial pursuit as long as we edited out the pg rated questions.
