Religion is such a broad subject, so let me say that as regards to JWS I no longer look to an organization of men or women running the show.
I have my own strong convictions of life. I love life very much and I live my life as if this day may be my last.
I believe the Bible, but not the interpration of the JW. I firmly beleive in Jesus Christ and God and what is in my heart and that is it. I believe all judging to Jesus and will see what my destination in the future will be.
I wish all persons good in their life and I also believe most people are good. Maybe I trust to easily but that is JW overtones I'm sure. I love and care for all and make no judgements towards anyone until I have walked a mile in their shoes. I admire people who have strong religious faith. But my faith is in my heart.

Gumpy....can't a man ask a question and just keep quiet?
Abaddon....I think it's rather simplistic and unfair to compare "religion" with "Santa Claus." People build their lives and hopes around some religions; I have yet to see anyone dedicate themselves to S.C. It's just not a fair comparison, even though a religion might be as mythical as Santa and his elves.
I also believe it is important for people to have a sense of meaning and purpose in their lives. This might not be a divine purpose or a priori meaning but it could be necessary for emotional and mental well being. I'm 99.9% atheist and yet I confess that scientific studies reporting the psychological benefits of religious belief are convincing. I'm simply looking for more rational alternatives.

Oh, and to all the Jesus Freaks:
I have my own concept of religion. My religion is believing in myself and discovering my own spirituality. I don't need some dumb SOB to tell me how I must think.

Beer!
I replaced religion with...my own religion.
I don't need some dumb SOB to tell me how I must think.
Will,
You've been so damn testy lately my man. You seem a little more pissed than usual. Wus up?
Orangecat,
Nicely put! I don't see things as you do, but if a belief can bring happiness till death, I see no problem as long as that belief never harms anyone considerably.
Bradley.....as you say, a different perspective would be intresting to see. A perspective that made sense and was somewhat believable.

When Roseann Arnold was asked by her son, on her television show, what religion they were, she she told him, "Basically, we're good people... non-practicing." Same for me.
However, I did used to watch Touched by an Angel every Sunday night. Well, until those heathens at CBS moved it to Saturday night and then cancelled it! It kinda gave me my "spiritual fix" for the week.
