If you hope, "things will get better", you are going to be disappointed.

    I fully concur.

A dear ex jw friend of mine were talking a few days ago about this topic of reform. Basically how I do not see reform making any sense when in fact the WTBTS is based on and seeded in lies. She feels it can and will reform itself to becoming 'mainstream'.

I laughed and asked her to elaborate on the word 'mainstream' and HOW can a 'front' become mainstream when it is based on lies, entirely? She replied there were and are still "good things about the organization". I laughed harder, yet with due respect.

The battery on the phone beeped and we had to put the topic on hold, for now.

For now, we agree to disagree that the organization can indeed reform deception, corruption, manipulation and lethal policies. Not to mention bringing back the dead whom are gone because of these lethal policies.

When you do the exhaustive research, homework and studying of this organization like many do, you will see, fully, that reform is not an option.

Bullshit begats Bullshit. It is that simple.

It must implode. And it WILL.

    In Due Time.

This is an excellant post. Ive always wondered why the org. has reduced many requirements over the last few decades. Its as if the heavies feel that if these requirements are not reduced less and less folks would remain. I can remember as a active witness that only your older members, those who entered the org in the 1940's and 1950's were very faithful and actually loved being witnesses. As far as the youth, hardly none ever stay, which says a lot. How many Catholics leave the church upon being adults. I know its not as high as the JWS. Out of all the youth I grew up with only about 5 actually stayed in the org. And thier parents were cool parents who let them listen to rap music, let them get cool clothes. All the others whose parents were like mine, ran for life at 18.

There was a saying in the former Soviet Union:

"They (the gov't) pretend to pay us, so we pretend to work."

This could be updated for the Watchtower Society:

"They (WTS) pretend to pay us, (give us eternal life), so we pretend to work (preach)."

I kinda agree with gumby and r51785. I was shocked to hear on another thread that the WTBTS is buying private jets for the governing body , I mean jeeze what's next a pope mobile so they can drive around and get media coverage ? Hey at least the catholics want you to eat and drink at communion , these people sit and pass food and wine around for no friggen reason whatsoever just so they can keep some count of who eats and drinks . How insane can you get ?

then having an Elder monitor the outline as the visiting speaker virtually reads the outline.

    WHAT? REALLY?

That's new even to me, and I left only four years ago. Is that really true? Can any elders chip in and help confirm this notion of a "political officer"??

I've never seen an elder actually following along with the visiting speaker's outline (although that is done, and I've seen it done, at District Conventions). The TMS Overseer, however, is responsible for monitoring the visiting speaker's talk and counseling him if necessary; and I suppose that would include conformance to the outline.

Perhaps an elder could give more precise info about that?

    Thought provoking post metatron.. thanks.

I think that there will always be "Jehovahs witnesses"..

I do, however, think that it will splinter off into another branch.. One of those branches have already formed and came on here recruiting the other month. I found them very interesting. I forget what they called themselves. Followers of Jah or something.

Yes Jehovahs Witnesses will splinter off and form other types of Jehovah followers just as Russell splintered off.

If there is no major splintering off from them it will be because of some major adjustment. Like "no more disfellowshipping" or "celebrate Christmas in some way".. or maybe they are moving towards celebrating birthdays or something..with the acceptance of the Lu'au.

    Just my opinion.

Euphemism I've seen a couple of anal retentive old curmudgeons that would follow along with the outline when a public talk was being given but it's very rare and by no means official policy. There's really no need any way, most of these talks have been given dozens of times and people know pretty much what should be in it.

Howcome I missed this thread first time around? Yeah, I agree with the soviet disease analogy. Both the WTS and the old communist authority structure depend on autocratic central control.

Another comparison is the way that defecting family members are treated. Often the family left "in" are treated as ransom. And again, we can see how congregation members are encouraged to report on each other is very similar to the self-monitoring soviet union. How many times has an exiting JW warned, "trust no-one" with your thoughts?

Such treatment MUST be damaging to family relationships, even for those who remain "in". To whom can a JW safely confide?
