Yes, friends, you heard it correctly: after Jackson spent Thanksgiving weekend in the hospital, and after Jennie got strep throat the weekend after, our Jackson is continuing the madness and mayhem. He says he got "silly" at school and stuck a bean in his ear, and then panicked when he couldn't get it out. We took him to the minor emergency clinic and were told that they can't get it out either because it's waaaaayyy up in the ear canal. So Big Tex and Jackson get to stay home tomorrow and get an appointment with an ear, nose & throat specialist to see if HE can get it out. If not, we may be looking at surgery. Not good.

Anybody else out there have a similar experience? Jennie once stuck a green jelly bean up her nose but we were able to squeeze it out (amid loud protests) and it looked amazingly like green snot. And she swallowed a penny once but that came out by itself.

I stuck a coffee bean up my nose. Loved the smell of coffee. But it got too far in there. Had to go to ER. This would be more funny if it happened when I was 4 but I was 21! No surgery necessary; they just reached with with a little pliers/forceps? thingy.

My daughter got a small piece of foam stuck way up in her nose...we had no idea until days later when she reaked of a very foul odor. We took her to the emergency room and they used those little pliers to pull it out.

Does he shake when you rattle him :D Serioulsy WOW what was the lil guy thinking? I myself rubbed fuzz on my nose and sucked my thumb I came up with them most ingenious plan at 3...STORAGE....YEP so I would pick the fuzz and push it into my nose. After a few days I guess my breath would knock an Orge over LOL So my Mom was looking at me and why I talked so funny. I think I too ended up at the doctor (YUCK I will leave the rest to the readers imagination. Well I am now 39 and despite my sinus problems (unrealted I hope) I am fine.... I hope I made you laugh Dear Nina. Best to you and tell Jackson to give you a break it's almost Chritmas no more scaring us eitherLD

Well Nina, Boys will be Boys, and I hate to tell ya this, but it gets, oh so worse...this is a walk in the park...Enjoy this time with him right now....You may not find it too funny right now, but you will have some good stories to tell the day he says "I Do" to his new bride...

My oldest, about 14 years ago, decided that he would like to see if he could get a popcorn kerrnel to pop out of his nose, by shoving it all, and I mean all the way up his nose and then maybe jumping up and down for the shakeing part to see if it would pop....needless to say, it did not work, and of to the hospital we went...He ended up staying over night and having it surgically removed the next day......He never ever, put another think up his nose again....from then on in, it was all accidents that only got us to tyhe hospital....I wish you good luck tomorrow....They will put him to sleep if they have to operate and he will not rememeber anything....The only one that will know that it is getting done, is you....When My D.J. woke up, he was all bandaged up and thought it was cool to have lots of popsicles, and just wanting mom....He was left with a couple of nice black eyes within a few days....It was also just my luck to, that we were having our family photos done and I could not change them because I had my brothers and sister were flying in from the states and Calgary for these special pictures....So yes, D.j. has two nice shinners in the pics....like I said, Boys will be Boys...good luck Nina

When my son was about 7 years old, he stuck a bead from a fishing lure in his ear. It was just the right size to get stuck and there was no way it would come out. So off to the clinic we went.

The doctor looked a bit surprised, but after thinking about the problem for a few minutes, filled a syringe with warm water and flushed the ear with the water. The bead was lighter than water, so once the water trickled behind the bead, it floated right out.

I don't know if that will work for a bean (maybe mineral oil instead?), but it's worth suggesting! Also, maybe a suction tube will grab the bean and help extract it from the ear canal.

I hope surgery isn't necessary... that sounds way too extreme!

    Love, Scully
