    Gun control does work.

Again, you can't take a law and simply transplant it somewhere else and expect the equivalent outcomes.

Has Australia had a revolutionary war? An armed civil war? Are Australians constitutionally granted the right to bear arms? How many guns were owned before and after the controls?

It's not as simple as just saying "oh, ban them, problem solved". Who collects all the guns for instance?

If gun control works, why were there still 2,519 (adjusted) gun deaths?

You're making an assumption that if you remove a lot of guns from society, that the number of gun deaths is guaranteed to go down and couldn't go up.

First off we can stop spending money on woke nonsense and puberty blockers and Gender studies and spend it on something useful. Like hardening schools and the like. Windows that are bullet resistant with wire so they can not be shot out to gain entry. Armed guards and magnetometers at the entrance. Double doors so once someone comes in the first they are trapped between doors if someone sees they are a threat. No one enters or leaves the school while its running without going through this system. Heck I take a cruise and I have to go through this every time I leave the ship and come back on board.

Stop acting like putting up gun free zone signs is anything more than and avert for where to go and shoot up the place. Stop using gun control and shooting to push political agendas. There is a reason most shootings do not happen in police dept. or places where its known the people are armed. To live in a free society there will always have to be risk. Heck someone with a big truck like in London and in the USA where the racist black man ran over whites can ram into people and kill many, we don't ban trucks.

Gun control is not about stopping killings. The left nuts in England don't give a rat about radical Muslims killing its citizens by bombs, cars and trucks, or Machetes knives or hammers. They just wanted to control the people. England has become a land of lemmings and spinless idiots.

Islam wants the death of western civilization for the most part. But I don't hear the left saying we should limit how many come into these nations as they are the ones cutting off heads, and bombing and killing people who do not subscribe to their way of religious thinking. So its not really about saving lives it about control.

The left even wants now to control free speech. If its not the kind of speech that agrees with their point of view its should be banned as radical, hate speech or dangerous speech. The left press covers up when the shooter was a Bernie Saunders supporter and shooting at Republicans. In fact many radical leftists were saying this was a good thing. The left covered up or did very little reporting when a racist black man ran over a bunch of white people at a gathering. But then lie about what Trump said at Charlottesville.

When I was in school in the late 60s and 70s, people had guns in the back of the truck window parked at the school. Schools had guns. In college people who were ROTC would carry a rifle around on Campus. But there was little of this insane stuff going on. Why is that? Because the left has degraded our culture. Pushing transgender as normal, that you don't need a father to help raise the child, that two moms are a good thing, that black culture is not full of violence, misogynistic and glorifies hood rats and gang bangers. That violent video games and seeing at the click of a button any kind of rape, murder or violence as much as you want on the internet. Lets be clear, culture has taken a radical downward spiral over the last 40 years.

There are reasons for the things we see today and most have little to do with the availability of guns.

Exactly. Also, not all gun deaths are the same. For example, concerning this stat, stated earlier:

"Of all the 5 to 14 year olds shot in the developed world, 90% of them were Americans"

And of that 90%, what percentage of those deaths are inner city gang violence, primarily with hand guns? Every day, literally each day that goes by, more people are killed in Chicago alone. The gun control measures there just disarm the law-abiding.

When someone proposes price controls to reign in inflation, the suggestion stems from a shallow understanding of the issue. If any price controls are implemented, the *net* effect is worse than before, causing much more suffering.

Gun control laws are very similar. It's a shallow response. It's like curing disease with leeches. It's an emotional response, a panic, but it won't actually work, and the net effect, after all of the unintended consequences are realized, is worse.

It's like banning cars to solve car accidents.

Technically, it would work, but with a giant humongous "IF" everyone agreed to it. The reality is they wouldn't. Same with limiting cars to 10mph ... not gonna fly.

But what we can do is decide that certain areas need to have speeds controlled to enhance protection. Such as schools.

Now, do they just put up a sign saying not to speed? NO! Because without enforcement it's pointless. They point radar guns at you every chance they get.

So they can assign police to protect children ... from motorists.

Has Australia had a revolutionary war?

Actually, it has. The event is generally referred to as "The Eureka Rebellion" or the "Eureka Stockade".

Protesting about unfair laws and heavy-handed methods of law enforcement for rather minor infringements, a large group of miners in the Victorian gold fields declared their independence. Although rapidly defeated in a massacre carried out by forces of the Crown, the rebels made their point and achieved most of the things they sought to change.

The State Library of Victoria has a short precis of those events, which may be viewed via the following link.

    https://ergo.slv.vic.gov.au/explore-history/golden-victoria/impact-society/eureka-stockade

Also, an extensive description of the "Eureka Rebellion" may be found on Wikipedia. (All-right - I know it is "only" Wikipedia! However, Wikipedia's account is historically accurate, and provides a comprehensive history of the lead-up to the rebellion, its course, and its aftermath.

While nowhere near as long and bloody as the American Revolution, those who participated in the Eureka Rebellion did indirectly benefit from it. Britain certainly learned from the loss of its 13 North American colonies, and thereafter was quick to grant democratic reforms in its other colonial territories (including what was then the Colony of Victoria).

People look for solutions , but really there isn't any in this situation. You have a country that is already saturated with guns and a weird ( from a foreigner's perspective ) sense of entitlement and glorification of guns among a significant majority. Link it with the proliferation of "shooter" computer games ( which desensitises the action) and it is a truly lethal combination.

These kind of incidents are simply going to repeat constantly as there are always madmen / criminals around and the easily availability of guns means they can kill a lot of people in a short time and with the police being armed , they often guarantee their own death in a macabre murder / suicide death wish. Sadly it is something Americans just have to accept , and , in fact , incidents like this just increase the chance of copycat events.

Not sure a one day event with 27 dead really qualifies as a "war", more like a violent protest and evidence of why civilians need to be armed to protect themselves from their government.

Simon Just wait till the new generation of kids who have been medically castrated grow up, angry, and bitter at what society did to them.

You have no idea. If you can stomach this it will terrify you.

Links to video games have been debunked so many times now.

I agree that the TV media and also social media have made things worse and I believe are now some of the biggest additional drivers for the epidemic of shootings.

As for the police, I saw an article that had analyzed shootings and apparently the number of people killed before a shooter is shot by police is around 14 but the number killed before they are shot by an armed citizen is around 2.

It appears in this case the police were already engaging but them sat back for reinforcements to arrive.

If the plan is for everyone to be unarmed and have to wait for the police ... well, it's a bad plan. An example of how stopping law-abiding citizens from having guns could make things worse.
