This past weekend a relative came over with these Ultimate Fighting DVDs that he BOUGHT but he wouldn't sit down and watch City By The Sea because it is Rated R.

They can be so dense and hypocritical!

When I pointed out to him that his Ultimate Fighting DVDs are un-rated but in my opinion it is far worse to watch people fighting for pure entertainment purposes than it is to see a Rated R movie that teaches a great life lesson.

Never the less the brain-dead idiot still removed himself from the living room to watch his DVDs in the other room where he proceeded to give a family friend a sermon about why it is so bad to rent Rated R movies.

One time a sister in my hall went on and on ranting about how she rented a R-rated movie without realizing it, and when she found out she was so angry that she pulled it out of the VCR and threw it on the ground.

I once got a lecture for renting The Bodyguard when it first came out on video. That was early 90's before DVD's.

Oh ya my mom almost had a heart attack when she found out I watched Pretty Woman. I'm a sucker for romantic movies.

My parents were kind of liberal with my brother and I with "R" rated movies. One time a bunch of witness kids (13 and 14 year olds) watched T-2 at our house and when their parents found out, they were furious and forbid their kids to ever come back over. How stupid and close-minded of people to base things on a rating. I just don't see the point of sheltering.

Movies are only rated R in the US. Other countires have different rating systems, so JWs in those countries are likely to have seen them and wonder why the difference in the US.

I don't know how to express this but I'll try. JWs are lazy. They want a Talmud that tells them what to do, or more importantly how they can "judge" what others are doing. Rather than making their own choices based on their conscience, the WTS has made it an indirect rule that R-rated movies cannot be seen. Elders have been threatened by COs at the elders meeting that they will be removed if it is know they watch R-rated movies or "worse." If you have a WT-CD you will find only one oblique experience about r-rated movies.

As to violence, there is a scripture the WTS uses that says:

    Psalm 11:5

Jehovah himself examines the righteous one as well as the wicked one,
And anyone loving violence His soul certainly hates.

This sort of hypocrisy drove me nuts when I was a JW... I got into a lot of arguments about it.

Violence is bad, but of course witnesses feel that Jehovah will fricassee all the wicked at Armageddon; they will then have their eyes eaten out.

But, as a witness you better not watch a movie that shows a nipple, it is immoral.

I felt so guilty about watching Amistad over at my sister's house a few years ago when I was still a dub. It was the best movie I had seen in a long time. Beats all the stupid Bond movies that JW's run out and watch like a bunch of lemmings.

One time a CO laid into our congo because everybody had watched Forrest Gump and was recommending it to him. He said he saw it and it was the most shocking movie he had ever seen. LOL

I guess I was a bad J-dud. My ex and I watched what ever we wanted no matter the rating. We just put the R-rated videos in a diiferent place where prying eyes did not peer!

My daughter told me her mothers new dud-hubby brought home "The Ring" and she threw a fit! I saw it and thought in was a rip-off of "Stir of Echos". A definitely not as good as "The Sixth Sense"!

    Dopey scared Witlesses! Maverick
