We wanted to buy a dvd to watch, I thought The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen(I think that is the name) looked cool.

I have not seen it. I was excited to see it but I heard awful reviews so I shyed away.
I dunno...reviews and friends movie suggestions are always tricky. I hate saying "You'll love this movie" unless I really know the person, usually I just say "I really liked it because..."
If you were to do a search by typing in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, you'd get a ton of reviews...or you can go to the Internet Movie Database. They have tons of good info there too.

I have seen it. It was ok. Movies are a matter of opinion. What one likes another may not. I suggest you rent it first and if you like then buy it.

I tend not to trust the pros....So many movies that I really like get blasted by the critics.
I would much rather ask movie goers. Professional critics know their opine will be published, and I think they are corrupted by the Hollywood connections.
A normal movie goer will give it to ya straight since they paid to see the movie, rather than got paid to see the movie.
That is my theory anyway.

I would give it a 4 out of a possible 10. I actually was surprised that Sean Connery would be in a movie of this caliber. It's more of a "renter" than a "buyer". I agree with shotgun...The Italian Job is a first rate movie. I would give it a 9. Happy viewing!!! Cathy the Movie Critic

In fact that is how I often judge a film --if the professional movie critics give it a poor review then it is usualy to my taste and I will go and watch it. I loved the film -- see what you think

I always check imdb.com for movie ratings. Everyone can rate the movie and they compute a score based on usually thousands of votes. Any movie with an 8 or higher is usually outstanding. A 7 or higher is usually very good. If it's a 6 or lower I may wait for it to come out on video.
In the case of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, it scored 5.5 which isn't very good.

I went to see it at the theater, and I actually walked out after about 45 minutes. I thought it sucked, just my opinion.
