One thing I have noticed is that PC is used to judge a movie...
Monsters Ball got rave reviews and an Academy Award to Hally Barry...
I love Hally, but that movie sucked.........
I have seen better from her (Losing Issaih for example)

During the production of the movie the producers and director knew it might be a flop. They spent millions trying to make it better and still realized it was a flop. They had so much money into it they HAD to put it into the theaters and then quickly put it out on video to try and recover the money they had lost. I got involved in doing some comps in the summer teaser campaign for theater posters. With all the money put into it, it's still a flop.
So goes the life of Hollywood.

We dont go to see movies at the theatres (except at drive inn's in the summer)
The price is too much for a family of our size.

Well, I loved it!!! I loved explaining to my 14 year old who Dorian Gray was. Who Mina was. Who Alan Quartermain was. Now, he wants to rent the old movies that their characters were taken from.
I did think the Jekyl/Hyde was a little over the top, but I still loved it. I bought it for Christmas.

When I go see a movie (or rent one...if we see 1 or 2 a year in theaters that's alot), I want escapist entertainment...my real life is real enough, thank you...and I don't need "great cinema" ...just a fun movie. I rarely pay attention to critics. This is just the type of fantasy stuff that I enjoy...although no doubt I'll wish it was done better. I'll probably rent it.
Sheila - agree with you about Sean C!! The man is lovely...but I must admit he has picked some awful movies to be a part of in the past. Seems like they're either wonderful or awful, not many in between.
How about Timeline, folks? A lot of friends really liked the book...

VERY disapointing....I just adore Sean Connery, and the previews for it and the website they put together had me intrigued.
There is not enough Peta Wilson in it...they could have developed her part much more. I did not find Alan Quartermain's role very necessary to the whole team nor the plot (I don't want to give the story away, it has a decent twist, but to me this twist made his invite to the league fairly unnecessary). I think the addition of Tom Sawyer as an American agent was weak as well...
I enjoyed the movie, but was glad I did not pay $8 to see it in a theater. It just is not what it could have been. I think they have too many characters that are interesting to do any of them or the plot justice.
The premise is pretty weak as well. If you do buy the dvd, go to blockbuster and trade in an old dvd for it so you don't pay full price. They set up the ending to make you think a sequel is coming..I hope that if it does it will be stronger and better than the first. I am a Sean Connery sucker, so of course I will buy the dvd if there is a sequel, no matter how bad hahah.
I agree with Tatiana. We all loved the movie here. Each one of the charactors in the movie comes from a book. Each one of my children are now reading about who they really were. I do agree, rent it first. If you love it, then buy it.
I'm sorry to any of you who loved it but, I absolutely thought this movie sucked! The special effects were cool but so were the effects in "Attack of the Clones". Sean Connery's vast talents were wasted. The movie moved around too much and didn't flow very well. It was herky jerky. There wasn't enough character development and the plot was not fleshed out.
The only other movie I've seen recently that was worse was "Master and Commander". I could've edited that movie better! I kept waiting for Russell Crowe to look at the camera and wink; it was that smarmy!
