I can remember, when ever wraping gifts for weddings baby showers etc always making sure not to wrap the ribbon in the tradidional "cross" design. We always either wrapped the corners only or just stuck a bow on it.

It was extreemely rare to see someone bring a gift wrapped in a cross ribbon.

Anyone else remember back that far?

    OR

Is that practice still going on to this day?

    Bags!

Thank goodness for bags!! And for tissue paper to stick in the top of them!

That's all I use. I can't wrap other presents to save my life! I've never heard of the ribbon in the shape of the cross being prohibited, but it doesn't surprise me at all!

I do the wrapping with the paper myself but buy pre-made bows. I sometimes attach a little item like an ornament rather than use a bow. I'm a little anal-retentive and wrap each family's gifts in different paper. Gift tags or stickers are good for knowing whose is whose. Try yarn rather than ribbon.

I use to spend so much time making my own bows and gift wrap I hated seeing them ripped apart. LOL!

    BAGS! are great.

I don't think it was ever "prohibited" as much as it was some silly superstition about the shape of the cross being associated with pagan holidays yadda yadda yadda. It was just one of those smurf thing I guess. Smurfs were not officially prohibited demons but no one baught there kids smurfs.
