I can remember, when ever wraping gifts for weddings baby showers etc always making sure not to wrap the ribbon in the tradidional "cross" design. We always either wrapped the corners only or just stuck a bow on it.It was extreemely rare to see someone bring a gift wrapped in a cross ribbon. - plm
Now that's one I've not heard of. When I came in (1970) - no one put names on the gifts, so that if someone couldn't give a more expensive gift - no one would know it. In spirit, not a bad idea when there's a public display of gifts (showers & weddings).
This fell to the wayside over the years & names were signed (and read out aloud). I still went with the old way - but it made it worse because then the receiver would say "who gave this gift?" And would keep it up, until I raised my hand. It brought the reverse, more attention, so I started signing my name.
Then the CO's talk sometime later about going back to the old custom of not signing names. Go figure.
But for the crossed ribbon? Naaaaaaaaa, sounds like a local thing - like the Smurf's.
Btw........love to wrap gifts. Big ribbons, big bows, dried flowers if I have them, etc. Great fun! lol - and I'm the only one in my family who likes to do it. So on the receiving end? Bags.
