What Depresses You About Jehovah's Witnesses?

It depresses me that they are a prime example of the school of thought that says we can never be happy about the current state of anything, but always strive toward some distant, speculative, highly unrealistic utopian 'prize'--and that we can only receive it by suffering until it arrives. I think that a life lived in fear of today betting on the promise of tomorrow is one of the saddest existences I can imagine.

    I am getting over a lot,regarding the JW's.

The only way,it affects me now,is I still have some people whom I care for still in.Knowing they are being had and lied to ticks me off.I hope some day they will see.

i have nothing better to offer them than what they already have, that's what depresses me

You'd be surprised what you have to offer them, love without the fear of it being withdrawn because you don't obey a group of imperfect men who said

    Superior authorities

    secular governments 1879-1929

    God and Jesus 1929-1962

    secular governments 1962-present

    Organ transplants

    until 1967 okay

1967-1980 not okay (too bad, you died)

    1980 okay

    The end is coming in

    1914

    1925

    1975

before the generation of 1914 passes off the earth

    Child molestors

If you have children, nephews, nieces, children of friends, how safe are they in an organization that requires 2 eyewitnesses and will not report it to the authorities unless there is a secular law that requires it.

These lies and many more are hurting them (and you) whether they know it or not.

That a man named Joseph Rutherford didn't get run over by an eighteen wheeler BEFORE he joined them.

i am sure i could give them plenty of arguments to leave the jw's and point out the many faults, a lot of which they already know, but what for? they are happy now, and wouldn't be if i suddenly started ripping into them.

I think this rationale is certainly applicable unless one has a Christian viewpoint which says that the salvation of a loved one still in the borg is at risk unless they choose Jesus. I know there are those who no longer believe in any God, and therefore do not feel compelled to help their loved ones out based upon this reasoning. However, since I do, this is a huge motivating factor for me to get my parents out whether they are "happy" or not (and they aren't).

I feel sad for my two younger brothers, who are like slaves for WT Society! They are both very intelligent, but they work minimal jobs just so they have to time to preach and give their talks or meet their responsibilities in the congregation. One of them has even developed shingles because of the stress he's in. I see all the stress taking a toll on them physically because they are not all they think they should be according to WT's standards. It's very sad to see them wasting their young lives in something so worthless and unrewarding.....while waiting for "the end to come".

I get depressed over my lost childhood. We weren't allowed to be children. We were ridiculed in school and told by our parents and the elders that the persecution would make us stronger. It didn't. It made us a bunch of angry adults.

What is depressing is that so many people ARE depressed and ill because of this religion. When I hear of how some stopped going to meetings and then their health miraculously improved, it makes you see how sad the state of many JWs can be.

This reminds me of what one circuit overseer said to us at an elders/ministerial servants' meeting during his visit (1980's)...Each congregation in the circuit had at least one individual with clinical depression!

When I heard that, I was confused. I thought Jehovah's people were supposed to be the happiest ones on earth.

I'm not confused any more though. The endless treadmill they're on, and the constant reminders telling them that they're not doing enough...this can only contribute to a sense of hopelessness.
