Weekend Circuit Assembly Report

My JW girlfriend was here for coffee this morning, and gave me the assembly report. Her husband told her not to tell me one thing because it would give me "ammunition", but of course she told me. There were no baptismal candidates. None.

The circuit report was that they are losing numbers, and part of the reason given is that people are spending too much time (and money) planning big fancy anniversary parties, and weddings that are too elaborate. How they connected that one, was a mystery to her.

I asked her about the talks, and she said "who listens? Too boring."

Anything to distract themselves from the monotony.

...people are spending too much time (and money) planning big fancy anniversary parties, and weddings that are too elaborate.

Translation: They aren't spending enough time in field service selling the Organization's publications and the money spent on the parties and weddings should be going to the Organization instead. Duh!

Sounds like she'll figure that out soon enough Mulan.

How do I find out when and where a CA is in my area?

Wow! No baptismal candidates! We probably went to the same assembly hall (Puyallup, right?), and I had been watching the numbers dwindle. I think the last time I attended there were two candidates. I always wondered what it would be like to have no one there. Must be a very hollow feeling.

Yes it was in Puyallup. (pronounced Pyoo-allup, for all those NOT from the Northwest)

She said it was their first CA since they remodeled the Assembly Hall and it is beautiful, and reminds her of a doctor's office, very plain. She said it is several shades of drab olive green with gray berber-type carpet tiles. Probably so they can just replace a tile if there is a problem with the carpet. They also took out the entire kitchen and made the dining area larger, and it has closed circuit TV so they can watch the baptism. She thought it was pretty funny that while they ate lunch, they watched an empty baptismal pool.

The women's bathroom was remodeled too, and they finally got rid of those ridiculous "airplane" toilets, and now have regular plumbing. They probably are on sewer now, so it would allow for it. They have many more stalls now too, and they moved the baby changing area, so it isn't the first thing you encounter when you go in there.

And there is now NO seats or upholstered seating in the lobby, so no loitering in the back.

They were told it cost just under $1 million to do the remodel, and all they had to pay for were materials, because the "brothers volunteered all the labor". That seems awfully high for that job. It isn't that big. What was the cost?

We had a few Circuit Assemblies with no one and a few with only scant people baptised. Come to think of it when I was a kid there were always far more people around.

I went to that assembly hall for a few years too. The only thing I can think of that would have sucked up that kind of money on remodeling a building that size, would be connecting to a sewer system. That could have been veriy expensive, and code would require using a licensed contractor. If all they did was cosmetic stuff, somebody took them for a ride.

That is correct, but we both feel it's only a matter of time until they catch up with us. We fully expected visitors during the Christmas season, but none came, and we took the decorations down already, so we are clear this year again. We faded over about 2 or 3 years, it will be 6 years ago in January. The last KH meeting we attended was in July 1997, but we continued to go to book study for a few more months. Dave resigned as an elder in 1996, and had been one for almost 25 years.
