What puzzled me when I went to the Circuit Assembly was when the Accounts servant, always said there was a deficit. Yet my congregation sent £100 every month and there were about 12 other congregations in the circuit, so if each congregation was giving the same thats £14,400 in a year, and we only use the place twice a year. Plus other circuits also used the same Assembly Hall. But we always semmed to be just that bit short of covering the cost of the assembly.

I was wondering the other day if there actually was any assembly that never had any baptismal candidates. Now I know.
I know my old circuit baptised 7 at one assembly this year, 5 of them were children of JW's.

How do I find out when and where a CA is in my area?
Good question, Elsewhere! If I asked, I'd get pounced on by my JW friends to attend, so no way am I asking, BUT I've heard that the assembly hall in Denton is busy almost year-round with circuit assemblies so it's a safe bet that you'll run into one if you head up there on a weekend, especially between January and April, or September and December. The only problem is you might run into a Spanish one. Also, it's LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG drive out to middle of nowhere. You take I-35 north to Denton, take a left on the street before the outlet mall, which I THINK is Hwy. 380 (there's a Cracker Barrel Restaurant on the corner), and head into the country about 10 miles. It will be on your right and it's hard to miss, since it's the only building for miles.
Take a Benadryl before you go to minimize any allergic reactions you might get.

It's NOT about getting donations for magazines. It hasn't been that for over a decade. They want YOU to give them YOUR money and not waste it on silly parties or anything extravagent. THEY lose money everytime a JW does this. NO ONE is placing money, getting donations and putting it into the box. The Society expects YOU to donate out of your own stash.

does anyone remember that miniture they had of Noah's ark near the front doors?
I remember that, Doodle. I don't think it was there very long though. It seems after a year or two, it was replaced with plants.
Mulan, sounds to me like your friend isn't so "in" either..
You know what they say about "bad associations"? I have corrupted her, and she says she knows just enough to make her miserable, but says she "is stuck" because of her true believer husband.

Do I smell "New Light (TM)" coming on? Perhaps they will decide that celebrating weddings and anniversaries are the same as celebrating birthdays because of all the "pagan" influences.

Gordy... you may find this thread by JT interesting.
Elsewhere... you can always find out by phoning the Assembly Hall or Bethel.

Hi Mulan,
This past weekend was the Special Assembly Day in Tampa. out of 1200 in attendance, 10 were baptized and I got the inference that some of that number had parents in the "truth." But how you can equate expensive weddings and anniversary celebrations to that is beyond me. There is no financial cost to getting baptized--just a bathing suit and a towel.....go figure.

A CA without baptisms. Amazing.

Hi Mulan,
Excellent post! Not so much because the JWs in your area are losing numbers ... though that is good ... but because your friend opened up with some valueable comments ... I liked this one you quoted from her:
I asked her about the talks, and she said "who listens? Too boring."
It sounds like we have another ex-JW in the making ... she wants out, and that is why she can open up to you, and say what she does.
