Thanx for posting this link Cyberguy. I fired an email off requesting the free demo copy! We'll see if it's any good.

The BOOK at auction is the 1997-1998 DIRECTORY OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INFORMATION. It is in very good condition (shelf wear). This Directory lists all affiliated NGOs, including the WBTS. It also contains the criteria required to obtain affiliated status, as well as expectations of affiliates. Every NGO gets a copy of this Directory, so the Directory is additional proof that the WBTS knew such criteria long before October 2001.

Well I can locate these pretty easy, if necessary, just by going to my library that is a depository for the UN. I just put in my order and .... within a few weeks .... I can have any Directory I want for a short period of time. Also I know old directories are with some other associated NGOs. Some will give them up and others will not. Oddly I just took out my University library's original 1994 Directory. It is sitting in front of my face for my own use right now. But I do take it back to the library because it is ... in my mind an important piece of history. I hope the one that is being sold is NOT from a library.

The one place that I do find very useless when it comes to old files and Directories is the NGO office at the UN's DPI. There needs to be a management shakeup in that section.

The Directories play a key role in this mess but also do the WTS's own documents such as the June 1, 1991 WT rag with its reference to Robert Muller's New Genesis book (page 45), Muller's book, and then there is the Oct 15, 1976 WT. Just important too are Steve Bates articles in the Guardian and "The Tablet".

Also the press releases of 1992 and then the actual pamphlets that have been issued by the UN.

The one thing that the is still missing in my mind is the original files at the NGO section in DPI. I am still going through certain appeal stages to see if the UN will fess it up. They are still sticking to their guns and will not release the files. But I am appealing on the grounds that they require NGOs, as per thereir own criteria, to be "transparent". If associated NGOs are suppose to be transparent, then surely so should the files at the UN dealing with "associated NGOs".

A lot of my scans of letters, books etc. are found here:

I used to have my stuff on Zev's site but he seems to have disappeared. Another web site operator has been nice enough to help out - please click here to review some of my information:

    p.s. - I noted this comment

You can order a CD from the UN with all the Yearbooks on it, from 1946-2000

The UN's "Yearbooks" are different compared to the Directory of Associated NGOs. Yearbooks discuss all of the activites of the UN for the particular year and they do not mention about those NGOs partnering with the UN's DPI (believe me I spent literally 10s of hours at Queen's University going through the UN's Yearbook collection (from 1990 forward) to sniff out anything on the WTS).

Funny! I'm with the others on this though. Even if it was an exclusive offer, I don't think it would make any of my family or friends leave right away.

    amac,

I think scandals like this play a major role when the JW is just starting to go through the process that not all it well in JW land. Usually something, an event of some kind, triggers the JW to begin to question. Scandals like this, if presented properly, can then make more in roads to cause those "rose coloured" glasses to be removed.

Also scandals like this help ensure that some people who are thinking of joining or rejoining (and actually do a little investigation) will see the leadership as a bunch of bozos.

Hawkaw, agreed, but I do believe they have to have questions or doubts already for the UN thing to have an impact and unfortunately, my parents don't.
