If God can send an angel to kill 185,000 assyrians in one night, why bother to kill all the animals that were not in the ark? The certainly didnt deserve to be drowned did they?

The problem with pseudo-scientists is that they seem to have less of an understanding of how science works, even than the laymen they seek to ensnare.

Science is not a perfect enterprise and never will be. The scientific world is populated by imperfect humans trying through process of theory to prove a perfect fact. The one characteristic that the scientific world has that is generally lacking in creationists and other pseudo-scientists is a commitment to finding out the facts in any give discipline and then arriving at a conclusion, and this is a highly important point that needs to be kept in mind when dealing with these issues

Theological pseudo-scientists approach such issues with a conclusion in their top pocket and then try to bend or distort the facts to suit their preconceived conclusions. The WTS, who buy into parts of the YEC theology are a prime example of this process. They thrive and depend on
their audience being ignorant of real science and the way that it works to solidify its discoveries.

Alan Feurbacher's examination of their last 'Creation' book is a prime example of pseudo-science caught in the headlights of true science. Against that backdrop it ironically it showed itself to be as dishonest a defense of the Genesis tale as you are likely to read.

Science does not deal in absolute truths. Rather, it moves generally in that direction and starts with theories. If a theory falls, it must fall to a sounder theory, based not on wishful thinking, but on facts and reason. A sounder theory is not a failure of science; rather, it is actually proof of it's success in that it progressively moves things forward to the next level of sound, or better theory. A theory is an attempted explanation of facts but is not a final and absolute statement until it has evolved to the position where it is no longer able to fall.

Of course the average Creationist points to the changes that regularly occur in the theories of real science as evidence that scientists are atheistic fools whose prime aim in life is to mock the thought of a Creator. What they do not or will not comprehend, is that it is those very same changes that actually prove science to be working for truth, not against it.

Has the author of this site even studied what Genesis says about these things? God brought the animals to Noah. (Noah did not have to travel all over the world collecting animals.)

Genesis 6: 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you.

My thoughts exactly. Ok, Maybe this angel was saving his energy for killing Assyrians.

This god kills or saves when he wants by earthquakes, floods, fire from heaven, etc.

It is dumb to kill all the animals when they have to repopulate the earth.

He kills most of humanity because their heart tends to evil, but then promises not to kill them again because their heart tends to evil. Logical isn't it?

I hear you can store 2 giraffes and a jackall in the jumbo size. open it up..and POOF!! they instantly go back to their orignal shape.

Nice post Hillarystep..The only thing that needs clarifying IMO is that the word "Theory" has a specialized use in the scientific field. In this use it neither implies certainty or uncertainty. It simply means a model that has great explanitory power. (Particle Matter Theory, Theory of Relativity etc) For such a Theory to become recognised as an established Theory it must have undergone extensive testing and revision. It is unfortunate that these same scientists (being folks like us) use the word in both this specialized way and in the common wherein it is synonym with "hypothesis".

This discussion has left out the problems for all vegetation. Very few species of land plants plant can withstand a year of immersion in salt water. (But i forgot that the seas were not salt until volcanos spewed salt into them after the flood. lol)

I watched Willy Wonka over the holidays. Perhaps God used "Wonkavision" to fit all the animals in the ark. - lol

Seriously though, I believe in the account of the global flood in the Bible. I have questions, too, and some things I must take with faith.

I was reading lately that the Rainbow figured as part of very ancient Syrian myth. The God Adonis (whose worshipers were forbidden to eat pork) hung his war bow in the sky after conquering the summer heat and bringing the fall and winter rains. Adonis=Adonai became Yhwh.
