My parents used to torture me with Country & Western music.

Torture was really my protest because, well....I thought their music was awful.

Ironically, when I hear some of this older C&W from the 1950s/60s and early 70s, it brings back many memories.

To think I was so into the punk scene here locally for awhile, had the mohawk, looked like a 'troublemaker', but well.....I'm glad I did that, had fun, and I do love classic ol' punk.

I started off with things as a teenager: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, KISS and Black Sabbath to name a few.

But oddly enough, when I hear songs like: Charlie Rich's "Behind Closed Doors" - it does conjure up some memories of long ago, and yes.....some of them are not pleasant, yet, I love to hear that song. I like Jim Reeves "Put Your Sweet Lips A Little Closer To The Phone", and Charlie Pride. Reminds me of Sunday afternoons at home, with Mom & Dad playing their albums/singles.

I have quite a few old C&W compilations. It really brings me back to the 1960s when I was a kid.

Good thread Nosferatu. Interesting. Going through my CD collection right now as a matter of fact.

Sadly, I was a teen during the 80's. IMHO, that was the worst decade for music..EVER! I 'd have rather been born during WW I and listened to marching bands than be force fed Bon Jovi and the rest of the bighaired radio friendly crap. British pop from that time period was so bad I cannot think of a word to describe it without Simon deleting this post. It wasnt until the end of the eighties that bands like Soundgarden, Nirvana, Manic street preachers, Faith no more etc became popular that I started buying current music. Up until then, I was buying stuff from the 70's. (Stevie wonder, EltonJohn, Kate Bush, Led Zep ...)

I have a ton of 80's music, from bad hair bands (Poison, Whitesnake,Rhatt)

to hip hop (RunDMC, Beastie Boys, Ton Loc)

But among that collection if you look really hard, you will find several CD's that really dont fit in with the rest of my collection

that yes I confess I really and truly enjoy

    1. The Best of Niel Diamond

    2. Simon and Garfunkle's Greatest Hits

    3. The Very Best of Dan Fogelberg

If you took a look at my collection, you'll find everything from Guns-N-Roses to John Denver. Pretty varied, huh? Depends on the mood I'm in. Concrete Blond, Poison, Skid Row, Twisted Sister, Queensryche, James Taylor, Johnny Horton. Lately it's been Nanci Griffith. Just picked up her CD to replace all my old cassettes. She is one great singer, songwriter.
