Well, let's see...what I grew up with (as in my mom and dad's records)

    The Smothers Brothers

    Flatt & Scruggs

    Johnny Cash

    Neil Diamond

And an amazing collection of Broadway musical albums. Those are what I listened to most.

My personal collection, as a kid, was The Partridge Family, then...John Denver, Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers, The Bee Gees, Queen...

Most of my music is pretty heavy stuff. I love punk, metal, hip-hop and even some ska. The funniest thing is that amongst all of this is Simon and Garfunkle and Johnny Cash. I love both of them. This morning after rocking out to Eminem's "White America" I listened to "Cecilia" by S & G. I don't have any Neil Diamond yet. I best get to downloading.

Cat Stevens, Iron Butterfly, Henry Mancini. My mom used to play this stuff. I still love it.

Most of my CD's are jazz, Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Billy Holiday, etc. and a few contemporary players. But I have a few r & b cd's. A couple of the r&b cd's are from the 70's, Lenny Williams which my parents didn't listen to and a Stevie Wonder collection. My dad has wax with some of the same songs that are on my cd, so I heard Stevie Wonder quite a bit while growing up, but that seems to be the extent of anything in my collection that matches what I grew up with. I can say that my jazz interest started developing around 12 or 13 so I sorta grew up listening to that. I have a couple of classical cd's, an orchestra playing Debussy and the soundtrack to Schindler's List. So you might say they don't fit with the main category, but I'm planning to expand my classical collection.

    1. The Best of Niel Diamond

Actually, Neil Diamond has caught on with the early to mid-20s age group. I know a lot of people my age who are absolutely nuts about Neil Diamond. He was another one I grew up with. I also have the 12 Greatest Hits album.

Franklin J, believe it or not, I sorta grew up with the Ventures. I guess that's how I got my interest for excellent guitar music.

The Ventures electric guitar sound defined an entire "Beach" generation ( I think even more so than the Beach Boys). I think their interpertation of the old song "Perfidia" is incredible. I still listen to their music; having purchased new CDs of it. My kids, 12, 9, 4 also love to listen to them and are constantly takiing my CD ---RETRO is in.

Crazy, but does this mean that there is no "generation gap" ? ( does that term have any meaning these days?) The Ventures music is 35 years old---back in the 60s and 70s would ANY of us be caught dead listening to music from the 1920s or 1930s which was 35 years old back then?

I suppose that because I am at the end of the Baby Boom generation, these generalities do not apply!

The Ventures never really had that "Surf" sound as far as I'm concerned. They were just damn good musicians! I don't have any Ventures CDs, mainly because their stuff is kinda hard to find here. I have a lot of their albums on 8-tracks that I've found at various places. Their "Joy" album was absolutely fantastic where they do classical music - Ventures style!

    I can't answer that question because I'm only 25.

I have quite an eclectic mix of CD's but the one everyone looks at funny is my Harry Belafonte. I can't help it, I love it. It brings back my mom and dad to me. His song Mama Look a Boo Boo is SO funny and brings back so many memories. But mainly I am into 80's music, Aerosmith, Prince, etc.
