2 Chronicles, Chapter 11, verse 21:

"Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than any of his other wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters."

WOW!!! - Now that's is alot of wives.

When I asked my mother why it was ok for men to have more than one wife back in the bible days she said: " because there weren't many people on the earth back then and they had to populate it fast". -lol (She was a JW at the time)

So what is wrong with having more than one wife in today's society?,

and why do jehovahs witnesses condem it?

Because don't some countries still have have men with many wives?

Well,today I suppose they take turns for their horny husband.

I'm not sure if they all slept together at once back then (or a few at once)....we may never know.

The correct answer is easy....Jehovah likes to kill people in mass numbers and to do this on a regular basis you need to repopulate fast as dubs assert.

I saw that argument in a WT recently, too, but I don't get it. Why not? Because it is the women who give birth, and theycan only give birth for example once a year. And whether there is one guy and 100 women or 100 guys and 100 women, each and every one of the women still cannot give birth more than once a year!

How can being married to many women raise the population more than if one man is married to only one woman?

In theory , men fight wars (often over women actually if you look at history) so more men get killed (yes I know in the bible the bloodthirsty Jehovah in many cases did not spare women or children either). The result was there were more women and less men -- now it only requires one man to fertilize many women - but as has correctly been pointed out , the rate determining step for repopulation (to fight yet even more wars) is the number of women. So as there were more women than men it was deemed OK for men to have a lot of women - but not the otherway around - -you can tell God is male can't you?
