At first you have this one man, one woman thing going on. A man will leave his family, etc., and cleave to his ONE wife.
Then you have the brother/sister incest thing happening. Cain/Abel, sister/sister.
Then you advance to all kinds of sex. Swapping. Daughters and fathers. Prostitutes. Adultery. Rape. Fornication. Homosexuality. Beastialty.
Then you have men with so many wives they can't keep count. (Or maybe they were listed like cattle for tax purposes.)
Now, you have laws against ALL of these things, except the FIRST situation. The laws change at whim. Then are put into effect all over again, to suit some new whim.
To me, it sounds like a bunch of crap.
Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than any of his other wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters."
Why did Rehoboam love Maacah more? Probably because she was the only one who talked. The only way a man could be happy with all those wives is if they all had NO OPINIONS, and kept their mouths shut all the time. What a life.
